The quotes when your protectors die really help emphasize the theme. The sound did get annoying after a while. A couple recommendations: maybe give the player a chance to build up more people before the next wave, and maybe do a gradual curve instead of instantly changing the difficulty. That unexpected jarring feeling was great. Not sure that's what you were going for but I enjoyed feeling it!
