A Monster's House by Slandercakes

[raw]
made by Slandercakes for LD33 (COMPO)
My compo game submission - A Monster's House, a Haunted House tower defense game.

In A Monster's House you play the role of the manager of a newly established Haunted House at an amusement park. You're also a terrible person, so you really want to scare those little kids.

Place attractions around the house to scare the little'uns off and take their money. Aren't you nice.

However, you should make sure you scare them before they reach the exit! If your haunted house's popularity reaches 0, you lose.

I've included a web player build and standalone builds for Windows, OS X and Linux.

I hope you enjoy, and congratulations to everybody else that has managed to make it to the end of this Ludum Dare!

PLEASE NOTE:
================

1. Only the Windows standalone and web player builds have been tested. I've included builds for OS X and Linux but I can't guarantee they'll work without error.

2. Due to a current bug with Unity3D fullscreen mode on the standalone builds (and possibly the web player build) doesn't work correctly - the mouse input will be offset by a certain amount. Please stick to using the windowed mode to prevent this :)

3. Chrome has dropped NPAPI support so you'll need to use another browser (Firefox, IE etc.) if you want to play the game in your browser.

4. I'm a programmer and the assets make my eyes bleed, too. Please don't hurt me.

The minimalistic music was spot on.

Though as for the gameplay I didn't quite "get" what I did wrong as my first playthrough when I got shafted.

I put on some blood and ghosts and even half way laying them down I realized that you have to put them on inner walls to affect the children 2 timees. No luck still. :/

The fun factor isn't so much here as I'm personally kind of over tower defence games, but I think other people could enjoy this with some modifications and progression in the game.

Still loving that sine tune in the main menu! :)

it feels very much like a generic tower-defense game. It certainly works, but it doesn't do so in any way that feels novel or memorable.

Fun play on tower defense!

It needs more UI feedback - how scared are the kids as they walk through the maze? Which attraction is selected?

PS: It says "Can't be opened" on my Mac, btw. The web version works ok.

The idea behind this, being a scary house and stuff, is really cool. :)

I like the idea, but I don't think the gameplay is very well balanced. It's very hard to earn enough money to scare more than a few kids.

Fresh idea for a tower defence. But there could be more visual hints on how much kids are getting scared on the path.
