Color Wars by Kitsubi

[raw]
made by Kitsubi for LD32 (JAM)
In this twin stick shooter you play as the last Blue Mage, powered by the color blue you seek to covert the evil Green Mages (Because everyone that loves green and not blue is evil) to the glory that is Blueness! So arm yourself with your paint brush wand and get to magically flinging paint! Just don't let them get too much green on you.

WASD for movement and Left Click to fire. Knock over a paint can and stand it in to recover some health and to make your paint brush recharge faster.

Hint: You can fire faster then you recharge so let your brushes fill up a bit and then unleash a torrent of paint balls...Magic Paint Balls!

The OSX and Linux Versions are untested, but nothing ever goes wrong with blind porting...right?

Good game ... Just, I think the enemy could not attack out of the game screen, so the player would have more control.

Damn this is harder than it looks. Very good use of the theme here.

Pretty difficult; this can be improved in two ways: 1) Make it so there are less enemies, and 2) Make it so that the player movement is tighter, right now the player seems to slide from place to place and I don't feel like I am in complete control of his movement. Other than that, concept is pretty fine, especially the standing over paint bit... ideally you wanna stay standing, but then all bullets will hit you, so you have to keep on moving. Is this your first entry? Pretty cool if it is and good luck :)

An interesting concept that could use some polish. Some of the floors looked like walls! Still, good work.

This is pretty tough. Seems like a pretty straightforward dual joystick shooting, but I'm not quite sure if there's something I'm missing or not. The movement is a bit floaty, but otherwise it controls pretty well.

The mechanics are well implemented and run smooth. I enjoyed this game, really! Although, the game is too hard. Maybe you could lower the enemy fire rate and not letting them attack from out of screen. Overall you've done a good job, congrats!

Solid shooter but a couple of things made it tough: enemies shooting from off-screen, but even more so the fact that enemy bullets didn't stand out that much against the background.

Try using lower-saturation colors for the background and higher-saturation for the threats so they visually pop.

Also the controls were a little loose, I'm not sure it needed the inertia.

This is a nice start :) Try working on the controls to make them feel tighter and more responsive

Loved it! You can't go wrong with a TSS. I won! Liked the graphics as well; the top-down sprites were well-done. Definitely sound would have been a fun addition fun.
Overall a fun, polished game! Thank you for that :)

You lost the chance to use "You have dyed!" as a game over screen. Hard to aim, okay otherwise.

Interesting concept and execution. Side note: do not attempt this game on a trackpad.

This game is really hard! But still nice and a really good idea for the theme

Very hard game, the enemies are too overpowered and there's too many of them. It took me some time to figure out that the paint buckets were representing my health and the brushes my ammo. Some feedbacks regarding the enemies would be nice as well as some indicators of how many enemies were killed or how many are left. It doesn't seem to have a goal or an end, if it has then I couldn't reach it. Graphics are okay but the bullets could be more highlit.

Great first entry nonetheless!

Nice game. Pretty hard though, as enemies can shoot you from outside of the screen. The level was a bit confusing. I could not find out if the different ground tiles had a meaning.
