Saving Bacon by hrd_games

[raw]
made by hrd_games for LD32 (JAM)
My first entry for Ludum Dare!
Based on the 3 Little Pigs, this is a Tower Defense style game, with a main motif of Hay, Wood and Brick.
Defence is the best offence against the Big Bad Wolf. See if you can wear him out!

Controls:
Left Click - place obstacle/upgrade obstacles or base
Right Click - sell obstacle
1 - switch to wall placement
2 - switch to pit placement
Press "Send Wolf" Button - start the Wolf's turn

Note: In Original Ludum Dare submission, the only way to quit is to beat the Wolf, and click "Quit", or with Alt-F4.
Bugs may also be prevalent.
This will be updated after the jam.

I was expecting an average tower defense, but this is smarter than the average bear. It has a pretty decent pathfind system, and will try to go around bales of hay instead of breaking them down. Combined with the low health of the items you can place, this makes the game pretty difficult, and I never once got the bear to stop eating my house, but it also stands out from similar games. The dynamic camera is a cool touch.

PROTIP: You're gonna be tempted to build a solid line of hay. Don't, because the bear will just charge right through it. Instead, place hay and mud randomly on the map so the bear will waste its turn trying to go around them.

While the graphics aren't that impressive the game is pretty good, I was pleasantly surprised.

Cool twist on the TD formula, was a little hard, but felt balanced once you got going
Good job!

Nice concept, with more content and tweaking this could be really fun

Nice tower defense concept. The pathfinding system feels good, a very nice idea, you could easily continue to work on this, and make a feature complete game.
Nice job.

It was difficult to beat the wolf, it took a lot of time. The pathfinding was done very good. For further improvement there could be more impact, when our building has lost all HPs. There isn't a penalty for getting our building destroyed. But overall it's a very nice entry. Good job.

Nice theme, and smart move to find a new perspective in a well established genre!

This was good fun, and pretty difficult! The pathfinding for the wolf was spot on - the absence of sound made it feel a little empty though. Good work overall!

I like this concept :)
(you should apply a "smooth" on the wolf, it will look better)

Good AI. Also cool that you modelled some of this stuff, modelling takes time! Though most people thought it looked like a bear, lol. Solid entry though, especially if this is your first LD! A bit of sound effects/music would make this great!

It does look good, AI is great, but for some reason wolf get stuck every time at the entrance of house, losing HP...
