Field Doodie by strega

[raw]
made by strega for LD32 (COMPO)
Description:
You don't have time for weapons! Pick up a sheep and use its excrement as armament! It's your doodie to take down the other guys!

Woo! This is my first online multi-player submission. I was surprised to be able to do everything with just Unity. It's pretty light on graphics and there's no sound, but its still fun to play!

I'll be working on improving the graphics and adding sounds and music and other polish/features post-compo/for the jam.

Features:
Four player online free for all 3rd person shooter
Compete against real players or AI Bots or both!
Players pick up animals and shoot each other with poop
When an animal runs out of poop it will be dropped and need to eat to get more poop
Animals automatically run around and eat grass
Player with the most "kills" after 5 minutes wins

Controls
Move - WASD/Arrows
Pickup/PutDown - LeftClick/Spacebar/E
Fire - LeftClick
Dash - Shift

Tools:
Everything built in Unity 5

Really good fun! Hard to hit opponents, though this does make successful hits all the more satisfying.

Usually I can't play LD multiplayer games because I don't have anyone to play with. But this is the first LD multiplayer game with bots I've seen! Congratulations on doing that!

The game is simple but fun. And funny. I liked the idea of animals (which are obviously sheep) eating grass. Its like a shepherd simulator, but once you are done you go on the rampage. Big sheep seem imbalanced though.
ESC to quit is annoying. You should've made it "If you are chatting, ESC cancels chatting". Otherwise, how can you stop chatting except for sending the message? And what if you are interrupted while typing?
Also, shooting seems to be too relying on physics. Usually, if you are close to an enemy, 'bullets' fly over him.

Other than that, I had much fun playing this game. Maybe you should add something to make it more replayable, like different animals (cows for melee) or obstacles.

Awesome work!! Online multiplayer game in 48 hours is unbelievable! Picking up a sheep as weapon makes me laugh! The control feels good too. 5 Star game!

Thanks for the feedback! I think it's still legal for me to change the esc key causing you to quit the match, but just clicking outside the chat should cancel it.

I definitely planned on having a lot more animals and poop types with different affects and stats at the beginning, but ran out of time.

It is pretty hard to hit people... maybe I can make it better in the post-jam version.

It was really fun but the only problem is that it's hard to hit the opponents even if it seems like i aimed correctly

Networking is not easy during a jam, and it's not easy to add bots on top of that.
Very nice game and very nice job.

PS: there was another LD multiplayer game, CMDer or something, where i'm pretty sure i've killed you one or two times. :P

Whoa, multiplayer, I should try this out sometime in the future. Anyways, it's a pretty decent idea, and the bots are very good but not necessarily clever. You might want to limit the name of your characters too, though I find it funny to have over twenty 'A's in my name, I don't think the other players like my name covering up half their screen lol.

Only problem with this is no one to play with...

Thanks for the comments and praise!

@Fanttum - yeah, most multiplayer games like this need some critical mass to be active. At least there are bots :D
