Love Bomb by Andrew Quartermain

[raw]
made by Andrew Quartermain for LD32 (COMPO)
"If it's not love, then it's the bomb that will bring us together."

Try to bring a little love to the world, by dropping bombs. Move your balloon with the arrow keys and drop bombs with Z. Press R to restart.

The people feel different amounts of love, indicated by the colour of their hearts (black and empty is low, red and full is high). They influence each other as they talk. Bombing them increases their love.Too little or too much love will kill them.

Made with libGDX. All the art is hand painted in acrylic on canvas. Music was made with Zynewave Podium. Voices are my own.

Nice. Although, some goal or ending would be good.

By the way, I fixed my game, it should work for you now. Thanks for the comment.

Gorgeous game, a lovely gem to see something hand painted in a game. Music is wonderfully fitting for the game too. My only criticism is that I think the bombs should influence the character's love more, as at first I found it difficult to see if they had much effect other than scattering the characters. Very well done!

The background is pretty, but there doesn't really seem to be much strategy other then "drop lots of bombs."

The bombs didn't seem to affect the population's love.
I really like the art!

Really fun game and interesting idea. But the mood of the game is what makes this game special. I like this unique art and delicate ambient.

"(..) too much love will kill them" - now that words to live by :) i like to keep my love level at 50% :D

Nice little game. Great graphics. I only wish it was a little clearer what I was supposed to do. How to affect the population and so forth - still a solid compo effort.

Best looking entry I've seen so far! Great soundtrack too! I reached "All is love" and stopped bombing, but somehow I reached a tipping point and the love kept spreading and killed a bunch of people.

The background (and the parallax scrolling) made this game for me.

Very pretty game. The graphics were amazing. Music was soft and relaxed, which I liked. It seemed that no matter how many bombs I dropped, it didn't really make them love each other more. But Maybe I was dropping them in the wrong spots. Overall, I really liked the idea of this game!

Very impressive compo entry. Loved the art. I had a hard time figuring out what the goal was, but really enjoyed the mechanic

Interesting game, though I had some trouble really feeling like I could affect the population. Beautiful art. The music gives it all a very eerie vibe.

The art style is simply beautiful, quite a beautiful aesthetic. Your style of painting is very soothing, quite a show of how you can use anything you're good at and deliver yourself for your game. The music also matches and enhances the experience greatly, quite a moving experience even if I don't know exactly why the populace was decreasing, if they were all suiciding out of so much love in the world or if my bombs had also a murdering effect. Surely unusual in every way, unique experience and concept.

Interesting idea with the artwork, but needs a lot of gameplay work. Doesn't seem to be much of a game here.

This is so far my favorite compo entry. Simple game, but the mood and take on the theme cause it to say so much.

Moral of the game: "A little bit of love in the right places can make all the difference."

Alternate moral of the game: "Half the world will have to die before we can experience real love." ;)
