Risk of Color by mtanton

[raw]
made by mtanton for LD32 (COMPO)
Match your ammo color to the enemy to kill it. Once you activate the switch, you have 60 seconds to survive. After the time is up, kill all remaining enemies to win.

Controls:
'LEFT/RIGHT' to move.
'SPACE' to jump.
'A' to shoot.
'S' to switch color.

Tips:
- The enemies will speed up when they get close enough to you. Try killing them before getting that close.
- New waves spawn ever 20 seconds after the timer starts. Try taking out all of the enemies in 20 seconds each time to make your life easier.

Really looks cool, it's a bit of an old idea, but looks really nice. The main issue i have with the gameplay is that standing on any platform or square makes the character untouchable since enemies don't jump. I also got thumped by an enemy into a tile and became invincible, but was able to get free thankfully.

Interesting concept. It's pretty difficult, which is fine, but it felt like the controls were part of the difficulty.

Besides glitches like pushing enemies through ground or being pushed into a wall by enemies, the game itself is okay.

It was a little too hard for its own good, and there wasn't anything that really encouraged you to keep playing, but it was a good effort, I hope you do well

The game mechanic doesnt really work because I can just stand on the switch and wait for 60 seconds it seems. The controls dont feel natural. Also it has a lot of glitches. But the concept is interesting regardless. Still a good game.

Controls weren't great, I could barely see the lazer and the little symbol at the top left wasn't that big, so it was difficult to see which state I was in.

I thought the game was challenging but I was distracted by minor glitches and felt my deaths were as much to do with the controls/platforming feel than anything else.

The color-switching concept is a neat idea. I found that the green color was hard to see on the grey background.

Very Nice Innovations and Theme. I liked it, along with the old style sounds and difficulty, even if this idea wasn't new.

Pretty difficult to control.

Interesting little game. I think it would benefit from a little bit more feedback when switching colours, as I found myself frequently looking to the top left and away from the action. But well done, it's certainly challenging.

Not bad for shmup. Good level of difficulty and embodies the theme. Should have made it more dynamic, used color combinations, made AI more interesting.

Nice game, it seems like a kind of "risk of rain" flow of gameplay. I like the graphic style a lot - it's simple, but it works well. The gameplay doesn't have quite enough feedback for it to be super fun yet. It's too easy to get stuck in a corner with an enemy as your health just drains over the course of a second. Maybe it would help for the enemies to have a specific attack animation, so you can perceive when you are hit by something.

Not bad, but not really good either. Simple and fun concept for sure, but just nothing exciting or interesting going on here. Needs to be more "FUN". Go watch some videos on game-feel and you'll see what I mean.

The controls are pretty wonky and the collision is pretty buggy too. Nice effort.

Nice little game. The gameplay was good but quite difficult. I liked the game mechanics though. Some music would be nice, and graphics could be better. Nice job though keep it up!

Nice job! Congrats on finishing your first game btw :)

I would improve a bit on the controllers, it's a bit troublesome to have to cycle through the colors. You could assign a key to each color (QWE would work) so it's easier to switch on the go.

Jumping is a bit weird, I need to have momentum in order to go up the platform. If I try to jump and then move I won't be able to reach it, instead I have to be moving when I jump.

Try to keep polishing after LD so it gets better! :)

Nice one, Anton! I love pushing people through the floor. That's not a bug, it's a feature. ;)

Nice concept but I wish the player could move a little more easily

Tricky little platformer this :) Got a very zx-spectrum vibe from it. If I had *any* suggestions, it would be to put the colour indicator as close as possible to the player so that you don't have to look up to the top left to see what colour you currently are. Thanks for making this :)
