Escape The Killer by Nomys_Tempar

[raw]
made by Nomys_Tempar for LD32 (COMPO)
"Escape The Killer" a short textual bizarre/fantasy/horror adventure create for the Ludum Dare 32 (theme : An Unconventional Weapon).

Conditions :

I was working on night shift on the Ludum Dare week-end, so I couldn't join any jam or make anything big (3d for exemple).

So I wrote a textual adventure with choicescript, that I also use on a lager size game. It took 14 hours of writing and 3/4 hours of intense brainstorming.

Features :

- 1 hero : you,
- 2 characters,
- 3 acts,
- 4 endings,
- 10 achievements.

Issues :

- Possibles stories issues, normally everything is clear but some may still be here.
- English is not my natural language so grammar errors and other mistakes with words are probable. I will correct them post compo, feel free to point them at me.

This could use a bit of proof reading. The text has many "tense" issues that require the player to reread and makes playing a bit tedious. Otherwise I would say this could be a neat idea. I love the idea of a "choose your own ending" type game. Great job with this. :)

Cool game! The grammar and spelling is a little rough, but not unplayable. My second playthrough I got 0% unconventional weapon use, even though I killed a guy with my bra underwire.

I found myself compelled to keep playing it and figure out all of the achievements. Good work!

A text adventure! You wrote quite a bit, had the warrior ending and some entertainment. Thanks!

Nice one, I got really hooked and had to try several times just to see what would happen.

Fancy text adventure. The biggest issue is the grammar and spelling but I guess you already knew that. An interesting little story and it's always nice with stories with multiple paths =)

I think it could have used more unconventional weapons. Usually room escape games involve using objects in strange ways anyway, so that part of it didn't even really stand out for me. It seems like there are some plot holes, like there was a closet in the room the whole time with an axe that I could have used, but instead I'm trying ridiculous things to escape? I may have misread some parts, though. Anyway, I liked the multiple endings and achievements.

The main thing I suggest is spacing out the words and proofreading it.

Thanks for all your comments !

Yes, I will proofread the entire game today, see what I can do (add some spaces is a good idea too).

@ Pawige : The bra underwire is an unconventional weapon, but not THE unconventional weapon of the game ;)

@ Cosmologicon : Aw, the title is a bit confusing, the main plot is to escape but it's not a proper escape room game.
And yes the closet was here all along.

lololol first try by doing nothing
btw I don't know about the other paths, but one of them should be a troll image of a murder and a very load scream

Despite the occasional slip-up with the wording and grammar, I still found it very fun to play all the way through to the end.

It's sadly quite unusual to see a text adventure on here. Often times I say that a text adventure would be best if it came with some illustrations, but this one works really well just in text form.

Very nice!

Interesting game, and the achievements help add to replayability and looking for the different paths.

Woah.
This har a nice story.
Haven't played that many choicescripts games, but it's nice.
The achievements really add to the game.
Agree with that what others mention regarding proofreading (but I myself aren't the best proofreader).

Text adventures come down to the writing, and I think there's a few issus here for me. I think I personally would prefer a bit shorter blobs of text, so there's enough time to take in the setting etc. Secondly it seems there is an awful lot of exposition once things get going.

Also it would've been nice to have at least some background colors adjusted or something to give it a bit more personality :)

I was really happy playing this. It is fantastic seeing a story based game in LD. Every time I see one I have to play it.

Oh, Choicescript! I've used that, it's pleasant to work with. ;) This was interesting, certainly very playable. There wasn't really any explanation for who had kidnapped me or what was going on, though, which was a little disappointing. There seemed to be a few different paths, which was good, even though I only did one (the "warrior" path, featuring 0% unconventional weapon? huh). But at the very least, it's a good start on a game!

This is not my kind of games but nice story anyway :)
Also, I got 0% unconventional despite my quite weird killing action. I wonder WHAT gives you 100% :p

I'm not a big fan of this type of games. But i think that you've put a lot of effort into this one
