"You play as a vampire-monster thing that uses its own blood as a weapon! Fight your way out of a castle filled with knights trying to take you down"
Well, that is the pitch anyway XD
We had some difficulty choosing what to do for the theme "An unconventional weapon", so we looked at some of the other themes that were voted on and decide to combine "You are the power source" with "An unconventional weapon". The idea went around a more zombie-like character that tore pieces of its own body and tossed it at enemies to a vampire-like creature that just spat blood at enemies to kill them, and then absorbed it again to replenish itself. I actually dont know if we managed to implement that part XD

The format of a 2D-Sidescroller was chosen because it seemed the easiest for a two-person team to make in time. Turns out it still was not quite enough time as we were both inexperienced with some of the functions required from Unity to really bring the project to the level of finish we wanted. For my own sake part of it was because real-life intruded on one of the days I set for working on the project and I was not able to do much then.

Good: Learned more about Unity and animations
Bad: Did not know enough about how Unity handled animations to implement all of it

Good: Created animations for all of the sprites
Bad: Was not able to implement animations for all of the sprites

Good: Was able to come up with an art direction and create assets
Bad: Due to loosing most of the day I had set for asset-creation I was not able to make all that I wanted. Damn you strict deadlines!

It was a fun project, all in all, and I think with more time it would have been refined to something even nicer. Maybe next year!

*Notes:
- Code is awful and should be treated as such. Do not use it as an example for proper code. Only reason to check it is if you absolutely must know how something "works" in the game.
- Will try to make Mac build later on
- W, S keys don't do anything, ignore those prompts, sorry.
- Builds appear to not work properly on some machines.. will try to fix that and upload a "proper" version later on (will be mentioned that it has been uploaded after the deadline)
- replaced the .rar with a .zip for Linux (same glichy build)

It maybe unfinished but it shows some promises :)
I like the idea and the look. Also, you got the "Creatures of the Night" theme :D

Nice art. The jumping was pretty inconsistent- it took me a few minutes to get over the first block. Clever idea, especially how the blood projection pushed you backward.

Pretty good idea, the jumping was a little wonky though.

Jump doesn't work for me properly in the windows x64 version. I would have liked to be able to play this properly.

Looks pretty. But the spacebar key (and the R key when restarting) barely work on my machine. Most of the time the presses are just ignored. I tried super short presses, long presses, medium presses; regardless of the timing, seemed to be about the same.

Got to the second level, where it appears that the blood supply is limited and you take damage. Is there anyway to determine what your current blood quantity is? I noticed that the avatar graphics are different, and at first I thought its body was actually getting thinner as I spewed blood. That would be a cool effect, if you're healthy and full of blood, the body looks healthy. As you become weaker and have less blood to spew, you become thinner, bonier.

This is a great start! The aesthetic is great, and the blood effect is deliciously gory. I hope you'll continue to work on this and see where it can go with more time!

Unfortunately the controls seemed to be buggy and I had a lot of trouble with the first jump. The concept, however, is solid and I would love to see a polished version.

Really solid art! Too bad the game was largely unfinished.
