Operation H.A.N.D.s by The Capitalist Crayfish

[raw]
made by The Capitalist Crayfish for LD32 (JAM)
Welcome to Operation H.A.N.D.S, the action filled adventure full of bad puns and nail cutting utilities. Prepare for an ambitious, sophisticated story supplemented by amazing twists and challenging gameplay that will certainly be a handful! You play as the hero of the County State of the Continent, the great pilot Manus Volar, who will fulfill his destiny by fighting back against evil forces of the communistic general Ralov Sunamov, and who will eventually surprisingly change his fate. I mean, c'mon, how can any story without a dramatic twist be any good?

Features:
* Cutting nails I mean edge gameplay!
* Really bad I mean funny puns!
* Halfbaked music (by a diddly darned spriter) and not so bad graphics!
* Over three different sound effects! (four, to be exact)
* Even sloppier coding than the coder's last jam game (and that one was bad, trust me)!
* All made by people who currently have nothing to add to this list!

Team and credits:
* Coding, some bad puns: Marnix 'Weloxux" Massar
* Art, music, more bad puns: Bartłomiej "Brzoz" Brzozowski

Installation:
* Windows: unzip the archive in a new folder, run hand.exe
* Mac OS X or whatever it is called these days: unzip the archive, run hand.app (not tested, feedback pl0x)
* Linux: install Love2D, run hand.love

Remember that there's also a cutscene after beating the highscore.

This game is F-A-N-T-A-S-T-I-C!

First of all, the idea for the controls is brilliant, very innovative and fun. Speaking of fun, the game is hilarious with it's jokes in the cut-scenes. Impressive that you had time for all of this in such a short period of time. The graphics are also very nice, both the cut-scenes and in-game (the highlight being the hand that you control).

My highscore is 21500, so I had the pleasure of becoming a skeleton :D

This is why I love Ludum Dare!

Mac Feedback - (*might have been a bad download, but..) my mac says "You can’t open the application “hand.app” because it may be damaged or incomplete." :/

roving-stone: gonna have a look at it right now. I don't own a mac myself, so the only thing I can do is try and follow the instructions for distributing to mac carefully. I'll post another comment when I've cooked up a new build.

Looks like it was a wrongly declared XML-tag. I repackaged the thing, it should work now. Feedback on if it works now would be appreciated!

Good overall game :). Played with my daughter, she was managing the firings, I was piloting the ship, it was funny as hell :).

Dang! I'm impressed. Great visuals, convincing SFX, and difficult gameplay that makes me want to keep trying.

Good stuff!

I've got to hand it to you, this was a pretty good idea. The controls were really handy, and the concept was really awesome. I would have liked to see the game get more difficult, because I never really felt like I had my hands full. Otherwise, combat was truly opposable and the art and sound design really mixed well. Overall, this game felt good in my palms.

Great cutscene and characters!
Game's window doesn't fit on the screen of MBP 13R completely, though. Understandable as OS X version wasn't tested.
Firing is a bit tiresome, looks like pressing instead of holding is required for better rate of fire or I just imagined that. Enemies are uneven in difficulty as scissors and bars are easy, and red triangle things are easy coming in one row but much more difficult to hit when coming in two rows.
The H.A.N.D. is great! Nice artwork and weapon idea.

Haha. Love the humor in this, and the way you use language in the opening.

Great concept, and lots of fun! Nice job! Wish it had more shmup though, the half second reload feels slow.

Laser angles seemed to be under utilized. Enemy patterns that could be shot based on the hand's angle might be a handy feature.

I would also appreciate it if the ship moved faster, and had a smaller collider. To be honest, it's really hard to dodge anything the game's current state. Would also like it if the ship fired faster, especially if only one finger was firing.
