Score Attack! by boateye

[raw]
made by boateye for LD32 (JAM)
Shoot your score at your enemies to defeat them!

This is my first Ludum Dare Jam game, so please be as honest as possible!

**************************************************

Controls:

W - Move up

S - Move Down

J - Shoot 1 Score

K - Shoot 5 Score

L - Shoot 10 Score

R - Reset

**************************************************

HINT: Each enemy has a different health value. Try using different shot combinations to find the most efficient way to kill them, and earn back score.

**************************************************

Known Bugs/Updates:
For some reason, when you use a smartbomb, your score and your # of enemies killed doesn't update properly. I'll see if i can find a solution soon.

4/23/2015: Fixed an issue where the enemies were not giving the right amount of points when killed.

Greens should give 5 points, Yellows shoukd give 16 points, and Reds should give 40 points.

4/28/2015: Fixed the Smartbomb bug. Also, i have reduced the score values of each enemy type.

Greens = 6 points

Yellows = 16 points

Reds = 31 points.

Good game, its just a little bit unbalanced. If you only kill the green ones, you will get the most points fast.

I really dug the concept! Figuring out the best combination for shooting enemies was actually really fun!

Great job!

Good idea of using your score as everything!

I thought this was a clever idea, though having only three enemies meant it was rather quick to solve. I beat it the first time. The sound was unpleasantly piercing. I think the concept could be evolved into something quite nice. Good job!

Really nice, I've seen very few games with this kind of attack, and they weren't really the focus of the game. Loved it. good job! =D

I was surprised by how fun I found this! Only suggestion I would make would be to balance it a bit; dominant strategy is to just shoot the green ones. Maybe get more points for destroying the others?

Very cool game! There was an element of strategy to it that's not like most space-style shooters. The problem being, I don't think the best strategy is the one you wanted it to be. It looks like every enemy gives you the same amount of points. So all you have to do is shoot only the weakest enemies and dodge everything else. That's what I did on my second runthrough, spamming 10-shots at the boss whenever I could, and it wasn't too hard.

The idea is very original, I really enjoyed. But the enemies are a bit unbalanced. It was really nice to throw my score though.

Thanks for all of the feedback folks! I hace looked into the issue of the enemies not giving the correct amount of points, and I have fixed it!

Greens should give 5 points, Yellows shoukd give 16 points, and Reds should give 40 points.

Fun little game! I thought it was an interesting risk/reward concept. However I wish there were more enemies as well health bars to help gauge how much score each type took.

I agree, FrozenFire. I was thinking of adding that as the jam came to a close, but not enough time to implement the mini health bars.

Decently clever, a neat little game. Shooting points adds a layer of depth to the game. Fun, however racking up points is too easy. Good work!

Noted, CornflowerBlue. I purposefully inflated the amount of point you made just to see how players react. I fully understand if it feels a bit too easy. If more player feedback is similar, I'll be sure to scale down the point value on the Red and Yellow enemies, for sure.

Decent game. Nothing really new or innovative, and I didn't really see anything unconventional, bu it was good nonetheless.

Solid shooter. I like the element of different bullets only hurting different enemies. I think the game could be improved when focusing on that specific feature.

Otherwise, score = ammo. Pretty generic to me.
