Compassionate Action by Larzan

[raw]
made by Larzan for LD32 (JAM)
After coming up the stairs from the cellar you find your building occupied by brutal aggressors. But instead of waking your inner Chuck Norris you decide to heed the Dalai Lama's advice and pacify them with a smile.
I mean literally.

Click to stun the aggressors with your smile (won't last long, has a cool-down)
Then move in for the hug to make them see the error of their ways and leave them sitting on the floor pondering life's bigger questions.

--------------C-O-N-T-R-O-L-S------------------------------

MOVE: WASD / CURSOR / SMILE: Mouse click, has cooldown and limited reach (they don't have to look at you for that. Strange, i know)
HUG: SPACEBAR, you have to be on very close to them

---------------------------------------------------------------

Unfortunately, due to some family business i had to tend to this weekend, i couldn't spend more than two afternoons on this game (It was supposed to be a compo entry, done alone without any external assets as you can see :) ).

So have a look, but don't expect too much, the idea had potential (Covert Action, Hotline Miami, this kind of stuff, but with peace...)

So Goeth forth and smileth.

And hugeth too...
And don't shooteth...

NOBODY!

Cause that hurteth...
Somebody...
Always...

And remember, a smile carries further than a bullet :)

...er, but not in this game
...cause you know, the bullets fly infinitely
...and the smile has a cooldown
...hmm, who did that
...that doesn't make sense
...and why is there no visible hug
...and...
...why is ...
...meeeeeeep
...reboot

DEVELOPED AND TESTED ON CHROME, for best effect and to be safe use that browser, no guarantees for the others...

---------------------------------------------
Minor changes made today after waking up
---------------------------------------------
* fixed the game over and end condition screen problem
* updated the config with more aggressors that i forgot yesterday night
* uploaded missing sound file
these should be covered by the rules

---------------------------------------------
POST COMPO VERSION
---------------------------------------------
Due to the time problems i had there were a few things that i wanted to do but didn't have the time for.
Even the three weeks since the compo have been so packed that i couldn't do any further work, but today i
finally managed to squeeze in a couple of hours and could sort out at least the following:
* found some chiptune music similar to what i had in mind (not by me but by Erik Skiff)
* added a zoom so that it resembles more the pixel style i had in mind
* found out that rotating the camera in phaser is a pain and that i should wait for phaser 3 to come out before i waste more of my time on that :|

Great job. This was a fun little game and you did a great job. I couldn't tell if there was an end condition though

I had real problems moving. The keys just wouldn't direct the character properly...

Quite a fun idea, was fun to play.
It is a bit odd that the enemies have to face away from you to be stunned by your smile.

+ soundfx
+ enemy ki
- let enemy only shoot at you when in same room
- cool-down could be little longer

Well made!

Felt more like an engine than a complete game, but I found it enjoyable :) Would be interesting to see what happens with this if you put further work into it!
