It may start off dark. Just wait about 30 seconds for the sun to come up, or grab the lantern squid on the outside of the cabin.\r\n\r\nCLARIFICATION #2: There is now a webGL version available on gamejolt, but so far it seems pretty buggy (The view stops rotating when the mouse reaches the end of the screen). Your best bet is to either play on a supported browser, or download the standalone.\r\n\r\nEustus is a simple squid farmer with a big problem; at the end of the month, he needs to come up with $500 dollars to pay his mortgage, or risk his farm be repossessed by the bank. So what's a squid farmer to do? Why, farm some squids, of course!\r\n\r\nYour goal is to head out into the world, hunting and battling for food, which you can then take back to Eustus' cabin and feed to the mothersquid, allowing her to lay a fresh brood of squids. Then, you can take them out to Eustus' squid stand and sell them off for cash. Make sure you have at least $500 dollars saved up at the end of day 30, or the bank will take you for all you've got.\r\n\r\nTake care in combat, for if you lose all 3 of your hearts, you'll be penalized and sent back to an earlier state. You can replenish hearts by purchasing them from the refrigerator in Eustus' cabin.\r\n\r\nTake care outside, as when the sun sets and darkness falls, larger and far more deadly creatures can be found wondering the wilds. You can choose to sleep the night away at the mattress at Eustus' cabin.\r\n\r\nScattered across the world are various powerful squids that Eustus can use as both tools and weapons; Such as the squid hammer, which deals massive damage to enemies; The lantern squid, which helps to light the way; Or even the fabled cosmic squid, with super space age powers! Unconventional to be sure, but a squid farmer's gotta do what a squid farmer's gotta do.\r\n\r\n\r\nDEVELOPER'S NOTE:\r\nThanks for taking the time to play E:OTSF!  This is my second entry into the Ludum Dare comp, my first being the rpg-ish story generator Papercuts. As with most Ludum Dare projects, I intended to add a whole bunch more to this game, particularly in fitting with the theme, and adding all sorts of strange and nonsensical weapon and utility squids. But alas, 2 days is all to short a time, so most of that ended up on the cutting room floor. I'd like to think that using squids as weapons is pretty unconventional, but I guess in the end a few of the mechanics felt a bit... well, conventional.\r\n\r\nAll the textures in the game were hand painted with acrylic paints on parchment paper and cardboard. After having a lot of fun animating 2D ink on paper drawings for my last Ludum Dare submission, I wanted to take some of those techniques and apply them in 3D. \r\n\r\nIf you'd like any of the raw images or any of my blender\/photoshop\/garageband files, feel free to ask! I'd be happy to share!\r\n\r\n In the mean time, I hope you enjoy, and please make a point to play as many LD games as you can this season!\r\n\r\n#ludumdare\r\n\r\n\r\n*EDIT 1: There was an issue with the mother squid's food cost for creating squids. Done been rectified! Also, camera switching now works. Huzzah!\r\n\r\n*EDIT 2: MAJOR BUGFIX- So apparently, there was an issues with the enemy spawn script where 99% of overworld enemies weren't spawning. Has been fixed. Still trying to figure out how to get the mouse working on the webGL version. This is why we gametest.\r\n\t\t","title":"Eustus: On the Squid Farm"}
