Harvest by Andrea

[raw]
made by Andrea for LD32 (COMPO)
I worked 20 hours on a game with a gun that would turn bad guys into allies and allies into bad guys... I had a good night sleep and when I woke up, I decided to start from the top.

Here's a game where based on the theme Harvest. You can move around, plant vegetables and flowers, sell them to get upgrades or repair your fence. I was planning a lot more, obviously, like having to fight animals intruding with a slingshot armed with seeds, resting in a house that you could build then upgrade... but I had no time left.

Enjoy, and don't hesitate to drop a comment, I'll make sure to check your game in return!

Thank you for reading,

Andrea

Hello! Thank you for playing my game.

You game is.... unique. It's fairly simple, I had to come back to the comments before I understood what was happening.

You said you ran out of time. Don't forget that there's also a jam, that runs an extra 24 hours, so even if you have school that day, I'm sure you can work on it after school. Colour would have been nice. But it's decent as it is now.

It takes really long to grow, though.

But overall, nice LD entry.

I really like the artwork and the animations, but there are some aspects of the game which could be improved, some background music would be nice. Unfortunently I couldn't sell any of my crops.

It's a good try, I love the character's animation, good work on that. Try to keep your game more simple the next time and you'll be able to finish it :)

I had some problems with the graphics... The game itself was a bit laggy for me, weird (I ran on firefox)... I didn't know what the upgrades were for and it seems that I can't cancel a selection xp
I know that the game isn't complete, but I don't get the unconventional weapon... was it going to be the slingshot?
Anyway, I had fun harvesting my plants and I loved the art! Although the animation was laggy for me I could see it was pretty good. Great job!

Yes, a big part of the game was to be able to fight with a slingshot loaded with seeds, so that farming was a way to defend your farm and house. None of this made it to the submitted version.

I see... But still great work! I'm sure the complete version would be awesome!

A tutorial or description would help noobs like me finding in the game :-) I suppose it's supposed to be slow-paced, which is good. But it's actually too slow for me. There could be some progress indicators, showing me when my veggie is ready. Overall quite impressive taking into account, that you did it in one day.

I'm not sure what's the point of adding movement if you can always pick up things.
It seems like an unnecessary addition. What's the weapon here really?
The UI could use more work, it was a bit confusing initially and I still don't understand how to play it fully. I planted some stuff and walked around.. am I supposed to just watch it grow?
Cool animations though, with some music it could've been a more relaxing experience and really set the mood.

A very cute little game! It would be better if there was a tutorial, or something telling people it was an idle game, but once you figure out what you're doing it's really nice. It's a bit annoying that you can't unselect things once you've clicked on them though, one misclick can cost you a crop!

I really like the simplistic art style. A bit confusing at the beginning because it seems like nothing is happening.

I really like the artwork, but sadly that is not too much gameplay.

I really like games like this, where you watch the world you created grow. I really dig the art style as well. I'd love to see how you're going to develop this further. Good stuff! ^^

I really like where you were going with this, but wish you managed to get further along in development. It seems super slow at the start, making it clear roughly how long your first grow takes would be really nice.

Thank you again for playing my game.
I played harvest, but it just isn't really good, or at least I wasn't able to get to the good stuff after 10 minutes of doing nothing. I am going to check it out later, when the game is going to be more polished

You have a really great start here! I'm a huge fan of farming strategy games like this! Given that this wasn't your first idea and you still managed to get this done is awesome!

Well done!

Minimalistic, slow as life itself, no sound... which is propably what gardening really feels like :D

Nice simple game. I think there should be some feedback saying when something is growing or when it will reach the next "stage" of growing, as the time they take to grow might be a bit long. Some instructions on what the upgrades do could be nice, and it seems like we can pay for the fence repair even it is already is repaired.

Either way, not blaming you for that since you ran out of time but those are just ideas. Good job!

Drawn art style was kinda neat, I liked to sing "walk the dinosaur" while walking around.

Cool game! Seemed a bit slow-paced, but I enjoyed the fluid graphics and the general idea.
