Chatanmaku 2.5 - Barrage Restaurant ~ Bountiful Food
I made the first stage of this game for Ludum Dare, but I plan to continue working on it in the future. There's no audio and some temporary sprites because of time constraints.
The game takes some inspiration from the Touhou Project and Pokemon series. It is about the protagonist Jolly, who goes to a restaurant and then bullets happen. He uses bubbles to attack, and also enlists the help of basic kitchen utensils against many food-using enemies.
Controls (non-menu controls customizable):
Arrow Keys - Move (navigate menu)
Z - Shoot (confirm on menu)
X - Use Bomb [while having at least one] (cancel on menu)
Shift - Focus [move slower, show hitbox, attack type changes]
C - Pizza Sauce Mode [While plate meter is filled at least once]
Escape - Pause

Hopefully it shouldn't be too hard to figure out the game without them, though.

Excellent (if highly derivative) danmaku game. Outside of the unfinished state of this game, I can't really tell the difference between this and a Touhou game - it has everything a danmaku game needs and it's all done right (as far as I can tell - I'm no danmaku expert). The difficulty is absolutely brutal, though (significantly harder than Touhou in Lunatic Mode, assuming this represents the early game). I don't think I've used the Pizza Sauce Mode even once, considering I was way too busy not dying repeatedly to check if I can use it yet.
The bullets look nice, but the placeholder enemies and solid gray background make the game look pretty awful. The lack of audio takes away a lot from the experience, and even harms the gameplay on some occasions - not hearing the bullets being generated makes the patterns harder to predict, and the lack of sound when you die makes it far, far harder to bomb in time.
I didn't really see any significant link to the theme.
Good enemy and bullet path design and a good game in general.
One thing though, it was easy to confuse power-ups with bulles :D
The bronze, silver, and gold pickups are a bit hard to distinguish from some enemy bullets; and some white bullets kind of blend with the background.
The game is very hard (but maybe I'm just not good at bullit hell games). There's just no avoiding all the bullits.
I hope you will add sound, because this game could really benefit from it.
The game is excessively difficult, i played some Touhou in the past and despite the fact that i was not that good, i was able to win the first level without dieing, but there is almost impossible.
Tweak more the patterns and crank down the difficulty, btw i good game overall.
