The "Bureaucrat" by b3jh24

[raw]
made by b3jh24 for LD32 (COMPO)
"The Bureaucrat is a story-driven game (perhaps it's a stretch to call it that, but nonetheless) where our hero is a bureaucrat working in the messy labyrinth of the federal bureaucracy. His "weapon" is his ability to negotiate and make deals with all sorts of Washington characters.

Several things to note:
First, I was unfortunately not able to spend as much time as I would have liked making this game. I really only had Saturday to do it, because of homework, and traveling. So, I didn't have time for audio, to polish, or to go into great detail with the game, but for 12 hours work, I'm satisfied.

Second, I made this game after watching a lot of House of Cards, and because my government class just began learning about the federal bureaucracy, so why not make it a game right? I figured it might be a stretch to call negotiating a weapon, but what the hell.

Third, I am NOT an artist (as evidenced by my crude artwork).

PLEASE NOTE the game was not optimized properly for all resolutions - I would advise using a 1024*768 resolution if you can.

Not tested on Windows/Linux.

Built using Unity 4.6, and GIMP.

This was my first LD, and I'm glad I took part. It was more challenging than I thought, but that's what makes it fun.

Well done for a first entry, there is a good idea behind this game. Too bad you didn't have enough time.

The concept is good, but it lacks of content :(

I liked the use of theme :) Unfortunately I think something may have been wrong for me - there were no text options on the right hand side during the "negotiation" section :/

Solid. You really need to develop it further and add a linear storyline with bigger and bigger consequences from your negotiations.

A great concept! I think it could have been improved by designing it a little more on the "game-y" side... each character you have to interact with might have a different personality (labelled on-screen after you talk with them for a bit) that responds better to some types of tactics (the "tactic" of each dialogue option could be labelled on-screen) than others, etc. Welcome to LD! Best of luck in the future.

Interesting concept but I got up to the negotiation screen, entered some values but then couldn't executre or offer the trade. Still, cool to see something different.

Very interesting idea, but without more of an indication as to what the player is supposed to do, it can't be that much fun. Good work with the short amount of time you had though, welcome to Ludum Dare, and good luck in the future!
