Caveman Massacre: 10000 B.C.E by The Salt

[raw]
made by The Salt for LD36 (JAM)
Alright, here we go. I made this game in a day and a few hours, because I slept most of the weekend. The whole project wasn't very well thought out, I just tested out an interesting mechanic and fit it into the theme. I really wanted to give up several times, but I feel I would have regretted that decision. I'm glad that I stuck it out, shit games don't make themselves.

I made the art, most of it, the two guns can be found here: http://u3d.as/ayJ
and everything else, programming and animation.

My friend Jake produced the music, you can find more of his band Days To Break's music here:

Overall, this was a good learning experience. I'll definitely be more prepared next time and probably create some sort of starter package that takes care of the more menial tasks like creating a menu, pausing, and other basic functionalities so that I have more time to focus on actually creating the rest of the game.

I hope you enjoy.

You'll probably need these...
Controls:
WASD: Movement
Mouse 1 + Mouse Movement: Controls direction that melee weapon swings in, release to swing melee weapon (Mount and Blade style)
Space: Jump

Esc: Pause Menu and settings

Dank memes, bro. But, memes aside, this game was actually pretty cool. Once I figured out how to dodge the Spongetars' hits by hitting them from the side, the melee combat was actually kinda fun. Having weapons switch out every few kills also kept the combat from getting repetitive. I made it past about seven or eight UFOs before I died. Kinda disappointed that there wasn't any way to actually win the game once you got all the weapons and beat a UFO. Still, a very solid and very funny entry.
