What Do They Want? by DesignerNap
Aliens arrive at Earth! But we cannot understand them! What should we do?
Well, we should fire probes at them to listen to what they are up to... With enough information we can decode their language and find out what they want. Maybe we can supply it? or maybe we will be forced to defend ourselves with some very unconventional weapons?...
PC Build for Windows. Use the Mouse to click the buttons. Fire Probes near the cruisers but try not to hit them. Once your probes have enough data, an unconventional weapon will become available.
I tried to make a game that used audio in an interesting way and I also wanted to make a game that had little or no text (Aside from credits).
I made everything based on icons and graphics so hopefully it will wont restrict anyone through its use of language. In the past I have made a lot of text and spoken word heavy games. This time I Wanted to try the other end of the spectrum. I hope you enjoy and thanks for viewing my entry!
If you find something you like or something you don't, please comment below and I will do my best to reply.
I will update this page if bugs and issues are found.
Thanks all! @xopsx
UPDATE - All bugs below mentioned are fixed in "Final4". Also ..
SPACE BAR to SKIP CUTSCENES - but watch the first one so you can understand the game ;) - (Thanks Ranmara!)

I restarted the game and gave it another go though; didn't have any issues that time.
I like the aesthetic, but the game is really confusing at first (I guess that was the point eh?)
action number 1
of Mouse Event for Left Button
for object obj_spaceButton:
Push :: Execution Error - Variable Get -5.fakePOW(100024, -2147483648)
at gml_Object_obj_spaceButton_Mouse_0
Never figured out what this button does because it always crashed, also if I tried to fire once the Earth was destroyed, similar message.
Once I stopped doing those things though I made it through the whole game. Getting near misses is hard!
I like the idea that sometimes Aliens just need a hand with something. At least, that was my interpretation, did I get that right?
The concept is very strange, in a great way, really liked it :D
Good luck.
In my case the answer for aliens was coffee mug :D
Good luck!
I just miss the option to decrease the angle and the power. But maybe I am missing something.
Anyway, very nice concept and implementation.
Also a right click option on the controls to decrease their value would have been awesome.
The intro and the credits are REALLY long and unskippable. otherwise fun concept :)
Without text hinting in the interface, I felt a bit lot, but that's also the charm in this game. To me, it felt like being a little kid in front of a panel full of buttons, hitting everything that can be pressed to see what happens. And that sensation is really, really FUN! (I did this a lot in my father's work when I was a kid).
When I finally got the hangs of playing and understood how everything worked (angles, speed, sounds), I enjoyed it a LOT! And it gave me that feeling that this could be expanded into a really nice game. :)
Really nice work with GM:S! Cheers!
