Bear Arms by MJaawa

How to play: WASD to move around, mouse1 to fire.

Bear Arms is a Golden Axe inspired 2D-sidescroller action-shooter. This was our first time making a game together, we used about 15 hours to develop Bear Arms.

We are a two-man team, where JP Lammi did all the coding and game building in Unity, M. Lahti did the art assets.

This was a very fun experience and we learned a lot. We plan to continue to develop this game more in the future, as we didn't have the time to implement polishing features like animations and gameplay features like power-ups etc.

We hope you like our game and we are looking forward to taking part in future jams, as this was such a great experience. We joined the SeAMK DevHub real world gathering for LudumDare32 where we developed our game, along with several other devteams and solo devs. Making games is great fun :)

It was a good job, the graphics needed a little more color, but the idea of the bear was great! looked really funny. nice job.

There seems to be a bug where the killcounter doesn't work properly if you play multiple games in a row.

Anyway, my highscore is 35, feel free to post yours in the comments, I also wonder if there's any way to reach a much higher score by using some unconventional tactics, hmm ;)

Hahahah i find this idea hilarious, now that's an unconventional weapon :D That little backstory in the main menu really adds to the game :)

Game could use some variety and music could be more goofy/funny in my opinion. But still it's fun to play this game.

Top score around 60, i just go to the top of the screen and spam... rainbows :D

Judging by your mysterious comment, I am guessing I am missing something in this game because after a while it gets really hard. :P

Very nice graphics, and I do love bear puns. Check what variables your reseting at game over, though, since it looks like there's a bug with multiple tries. Good work on your jam!

The idea itself is fine, but the execution feels awkward. Your character skirts about, the enemies just slide forwards, and if you stop moving the screen just pushes you forward.

I like the idea of the game and the sprites look really good, though game mechanics are lacking a little, there is a problem with sprite layer sorting. Game get's impossible after a while, since the spawning seems to get a little too much too fast. Overall pretty good game.

I love the humour in this game - the title, the backstory, and the general contrast between the bear and... everything else. The visual style is awesome, too: the 'game over' screen is very ominous!

Wow, it gets pretty hard very quickly :P I only managed to get about 48 but I was so swarmed by enemies at that point hehe.

I love the use of the theme and the graphics are good. I kinda like the contrast of everything being colourless against the rainbow bullets.

Not bad for a first game together. I'm not sure if this is a bug, but the knight always moved left if I didn't send any input. I was using the keyboard (reconfigured for Azerty).

the bear deserves a medal, but its still not good enough for the demons

Man those things just come at you after a while! I like the mood of this game and really enjoy the humor and use of theme. Well done!

We had very similar games, mechanics-wise! I loved the drawn art, and the background was excellent. Bear arms is a funny weapon too =)

One tip, to get your bullets to spawn at the bear's mouth instead of your avatar's center, you can attach an empty game object to your avatar prefab (I called it Muzzle), and place the Muzzle at the mouth of the bear. Then, in the script that fires the gun, find the Muzzle object (and save it off) and use its transform as the spawn location of your bullet. It's nice because then you can make adjustments without having to rewrite your script.

Well done!

Very eerie artstyle, for a game about rainbow-puking bear. I will definately remember it.

Btw, you gave us two possible resolutions, and kill count doesn't work on one of them :P. Anyway, for 15 hours of development, it's a really nice entry.

I was thinking, to little enemies, then the horde appeard. Nice graphics, but more content and variation are neeeded.

The game idea are a bit too simple. But the idea with the teddy bears are fun.

Unpenetrable walls of enemies happen too soon.
I liked the mood, but this rainbow-colored thing for sure does not come out of bears mouth :)
