Corporal Cancer by hercludes

[raw]
made by hercludes for LD32 (JAM)
I was about two minutes late to send it in for the Ludum Dare, oh well jam works I guess :\ It crashes a lot too. Other than that it's pretty good. It was written in C++ using SDL and all that jazz.
I've updated it to feature less bugs, better movement, more clarification and stuff have fun.

The idea is that you can control cancer through cig nodes, which is pretty much a very broken whip that allows you to hop and climb around as well as 'slaughter' enemies. It's a very short, albeit difficult, platformer whose mechanics aren't shown very well in the early level.

You might get an error when running, something about MSVCRT or whatever, anyways, point is, I compiled the game using visual studios 2013, so you'll need the visual studios 2013 redistributable package: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=40784 . Your computer might already have it, most of my friends had it anyways.

This game, like every other game I make, is meant to be difficult, but not in an unfair way (except that wall climbing, wall climbing is a bitch)

This gave me cancer, but in the best of ways.
Kind of like that other time where I ate 100 hamburgers and then by the end of that week I had intercepted cancer right after, only to have been worth it.

Too hard for me. Sorry, but I can't waste time for fails while jumping without any progress. I like idea of mechanics and rude humor, and feel unsatisfied because can't see whole game.

Thanks for the comments, I've now made movement easier, made tutorial much more clear and easy and doubled the amount of levels (as well as refining old ones) :)

Good entry, could improve the art, but I understand that you used C++ and SDl, maybe next time you can go with Construct or Gamemaker. But good entry.

Cool game. Nice concept with metrodvania elements. Wall climbing lots a bit glitchy but the overall physics worked surprisingly well.

Can't start because MSVCP120.dll is missing from your computer.

Solved that here. http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=40784

Well, I didn't make it too far, but interesting platformer.

took me one hour and a half and it doesn't seem to be an exit to this last level, all the exits I found didn't work and I swear I tried them all.

I loved your game, like really really. too bad for those 2 minutes, this is by far my favorite entry !

Oops, it's supposed to crash the game when you hit that point, but it looks like it doesn't. Thanks for your kind words though (y)

The jumpers seem a good idea but I also find it a little too hard for me, even if I reached a cig note!

Hard game, didn't like the graphics enough to pull through the whole thing. Still a solid entry!

Difficult game. Much because the hit detection is not responsive. This is especially troublesome when the key doesn't want to unlock the door until it really touches it. That level where I have to carry the key with the nodes is horrible for that reason and the key doesn't want to regenerate sometimes. (It's nice that it resets into position if you lost it, but only works 3/4 at a time.)

I had to quit because it got too challenging. Not a good idea to have one hard part and then a harder part in a same level.

It's an interesting yet challenging game.
