BeatBopper by Sean

[raw]
made by Sean for LD32 (JAM)
A pinball-esque game about bopping fishies with your beats.

---
Controls:
SPACEBAR - bop your beats
WASD - rotate + slightly influence your movement

---
Gameplay:
You control the BeatBopper and have to try to destroy the big bad fishy, but take too many hits from the little fishies and you'll be the one getting bopped!

---
Disclaimer:
This game was made mostly as an excuse to work on the game engine, so don't get your hopes up. We seem to having some issues with getting a proper release build up and running on different hardware, so you can use the following to link to try out a debug build if you'd like: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B0Jnx1KvzUv4TVhsWnpRSUZHOWs/view?usp=sharing

I wasn't able to run with because I got a missing MSVCP110D.dll message.

I can't start the game (haven't rated it) with windows 8.1 - any tips for me?

Interesting, what language are you making this engine in, if you don't mind me asking? Are you building it off of any other SDKs? My game is made using an engine in progress as well, though less for the purpose of developing the engine so much as to using it to make a game. You have a difficult and hard to understand game, but it seems like the physics of your engine are definitely working as intended. XD

It's written in C++, and it's actually quite a big mish-mash of various things: GLFW, GLEW, Box2D, etc.

I've uploaded a release build which should allow more people to actually run the game (although I wouldn't be surprised if there are more issues to be found :D)

The game felt a little buggy or incomplete, which corresponds with your disclaimer, I guess. However, the concept is interesting, and the visuals were great!

I really like the feel of slowly pushing my way toward the target. The graphics and music also came together in a really nice, relaxing way. Nice work!

Fun little game, love the minimalist aesthetic. The music and overall feel made the game really energetic. If it had more of a point (maybe a climbing goal or scoreboard), it could be really addicting.

I couldn't run the game on windows 7 for some reason, so I haven't rated sorry.

Liked:
- Great atmosphere and great music. Everything felt smooth and bouncy.
- Fun controls and physics
- Nice graphics. I really liked the colour palette and lighting

Dislike:
- The "game" is pretty incomplete
- The fish moved way too fast... they were impossible to dodge and zipped through the screen in less than half a second. I can't tell if this was the intended behaviour or if it was a bug (maybe calculating the fish position based on cycles rather than a timer? )

Overall very creative and atmospheric. I'd like to see a finished game in the same style.

It feels cool to play, though it'd be awesome to have a bit more colour in the enemies as it got a little hard to read sometimes :)

I like these simple 3d models. Good starting point to something bigger.

Through most of the game I wasn't sure of what I had to do. It's a cool idea though.
