Opa Bakkebaard by PEBKAC

[raw]
made by PEBKAC for LD32 (JAM)
When I asked my kids to come up with ideas for the theme 'unconventional weapons', I first had to explain Weapons to them (they're 4 and 2 and although they're boys, they are not into fighting / knights / cops much) and then 'unconventional'. In the Netherlands, there's this nursery rhyme about 'Opa Bakkebaard' (Gramps Sideburn) who has an unconventional style of doing chores. Somewhere in the mix, this went from doing chores to being a cop, and before you know it you're on the roof fighting off gangs of thugs armed with nothing but a fire hose and a hair dryer.

[+] Funny idea
[+] I liked the backstory

[-] The robbers are glitchy (they shake and warp)
* Maybe a game loop problem with software vs hardware time?
[-] No visual feedback of hitting a robber
* I don't even know if I ever hit them, the blow dryer & umbrella thing works tho
[-] No sounds

Don't work on my computer too, robbers move too fast. You should limit you update rate!

i would appreciate more gameplay. and sounds. and hoses.

i don't know what's up with the umbrellas, but, nice effort. I think this game can be polished into potential. :)

I'm not getting any feedback. Did I just kill the robber, or did he make it into the store, I don't know. And there's no penalty for them getting into the store either.

Cool concept, but it lake of some feedback about when one succeed or failed to hit the robber. It is also a little too fast, at least on my Linux box.

Art styles clash, but the idea is pretty good. Lacks sound but is conceptually pretty good.

The idea is funny and the backstory is interesting, but there is a lot of gameplay polish that could be done to really smoothen out the user experience.

The robbers move so fast it's impossible to tell what's going on.
