RUN -> JUMP ^ DELIVER by shadow64

[raw]
made by shadow64 for LD32 (JAM)
RUN -> JUMP ^ DELIVER is my 3rd Ludum Dare title. My last attempt, Natquik, was way too much to try to tackled during LD31, so this time my goal was to keep it extremely simple. I pretty much only had about 18 hours to get this done and I'm fairly happy with the result. It's certainly not perfect, but the basics of what I wanted are there.

You are a delivery boy (you will be able to play as other things post-compo), and your job is to get food to people as quickly as possible - by throwing it at them. You have a limited time to solve their cravings.

Each customer needs 3 burritos. The game is best played on controller, but can also be played on keyboard.

Controls
ASD or Arrows
Space to Jump
P or Q to Fire Burritos

See how much money you can earn! You get bonus time for every successful delivery, so make the faster you go, the better you do!

Post-Compo Goals: variety of food weapons, actual levels, different cravings for each customer, limited food supply/having to restock if you run out.

Thank you for playing and if you vote, please comment as well so that I can check out your game too!

Fun Concept, but when i played it with keyboard, my browser(firefox) would always search for the letters i was typing in that made it hard to play.

The finest burrito delivery sim around.

Once I worked out what to do, it wasn't too much of a challenge. It would have been good to have multiple customers at the same time and they will leave unless you deliver their food on time.

It's definitely an unusual game, I'll give you that.

The platforming controls and physics felt really solid. Music was pretty good to. The gameplay needs something to add some depth to it though! Solid effort.

Thanks for the feedback so far everyone. I'm hoping to get to your games once I got home from work, but it's been late hours recently so I can typically only play HTML5 stuff and only on my breaks - the Unity issue is killin' me, but I promise I'll play and give feedback by Sunday at the latest and thank you for yours.

Juin - Sorry about the FireFox issue. I'll see what I can do, but that export is specific to GameMakerStudio, so there may not be a great way to handle that.

RoryD - Eventually my hope is to have the game work differently where you will have to make choices about where you go and what to deliver. This was just trying to get out the minimum prototype since I only had about 18 hours total in the 3 days to work. :)

Beanalby - Thanks! I think eventually I'm going to have the food stick around longer and gradually fade out, so that if someone stiffs you for a tip you can coat their area/face with burritos. Right now it just made more sense to have them delete after a bit.

Roving-Stone - Thanks on the compliments! And I'll definitely be working on adding depth in the coming days/weeks. :)

KhaoTom - IT'S ONLY GONNA GET FINER..er..est. Thanks, dude!

Pretty good, I liked the way it played and the sound fit particularly well.

Only gripe is that the level was difficult to negotiate. I wish the platforms on either side were level so I could fire burritos long range. As it is now, I basically ran up to them and handed the burritos to them because there was so little space on the platform to see it flying.

An interesting little game, I really liked the art style. I had some issues figuring out controls, perhaps something in the game would be better. I like that you have controller support (though I didn't get to test it)!

Interesting little game, even if a bit boring :D

I think just a little more variety in the platforming and delivery types. Burrito gun gets some great theme points from me.

Interesting to play!
Quite challenging, but that was not very innovative, you just shoot burritos :)
But cool, 23 delievers made

Okay, I've gotten to a couple of you. Trying to do a few each day when I get home!

@Tummyache, thanks for the feedback! The level that is in there is not meant to be super challenging or even that interesting. I was really only able to get the prototype idea done. BUT! I will try to make sure there are more moments when we get to see food fly! Thanks!

@PixelStuff - Thanks! Can't wait to add other foods!

@Teirce - Thank you for the compliments. Once I separate the gameplay out a bit more, I'll try to have something to introduce the concepts gently! Great note!

@gogo199432 - Thanks. I'll try to liven it up. ;p

@denycetm - Absolutely will add variety. Thanks for the theme points!

@volkoivan - Sorry you feel that way, but hopefully the later updates will make you think otherwise. Glad you liked it overall though!

@Manu & Wan - Maybe this weekend I'll start keeping track! If you play, post your scores!

Thanks again to everyone who played and gave feedback. It's all going to be very helpful!

Huzzah! The weekend was good to me and I was able to actually get back to everyone who commented. I tried to give feedback on everyone's but it varied with everyone!

I also did more work on the post-compo version of the game! I now have a basic customizer so that you can change what the character looks like. Eventually I'd like to add a shop to the game where you can spend money on different looks and then swap body parts around.

Still working on getting more and more interesting content into the full version, but thank you all for playing what I was able to get done in the small window I had. The feedback is great!

Lazarus-omin (from Creative Sectors):
Aw, a cute one! Reminded me of those high score racking DOS-era games. Cool music, charming & simple graphics, fluid gameplay. Not much depth, but considering you've made this in 18 hours, it's pretty good.

Keep it up! Looking forward to the new content.

Very fun concept. Managed to earn 46.5 money :D... Though it could have been a good idea to have a limiter on the amount of burritos you could shoot. Like shooting out a burrito would cost 0.10 or such. That would make it more challenging. Also, for every delivery made, the time could get extended. Anyways, really good job. Giving good rating.
