Sugar Rush by KloudRazor

[raw]
made by KloudRazor for LD32 (COMPO)
I joined in late so this is more of a concept than a game but I'm glad to have something to show. It's my first ludum dare and I hope I will do better next time.
I don't know if I will have time to do a post-compo version even though it could be really fun.

Background:
You are at a picnic with your family when you notice that ants are marching a raid at some sugar that somehow tumbled into the grass, so you take out your magnifying glass and teach the ants a lesson.

Software used:
-Unity5
-sfxr
-Blender

Known bugs:
*'Return to menu' button not working
*Score and Wave number at the end screen not working
*Some ants sleep for a while instead of harvesting sugar

Very unconventional! It's just like going back to childhood!! I like it!
Just hope that there are more gameplay for this mechanic!

Cool concept, tough It would be nice if you had more habilities, or you could adjust the intensity/width of the ray.

Nice twist on the theme. It took me a while to get that it's not the middle of the shadow but the middle of the looking glass that burns the enemies. :p

@Multiplexor I actually wanted to implement height change of the magnifying glass and other features to make the game feel more like.. well.. a game. I joined a day late though and I didn't have time to do much.

Really simple but fits the theme perfectly.

You said in the description that there may be some bugs but the only bugs I could find were under my magnifying glass HAHAHA get it? =D

Anyway, clever stuff having the shadows actually being properly cast on the sugar, could easily have been missed.

nice first attempt - got everything working and the game is playable, so good job there! As you already said in the comments, the game did need more actual "gameplay" but still, you got it working and thats half the battle.

WOW! Great! This is so playable! Add some post compo features (glass upgrades / new enemies) and it would be an awsome game!!! Great idea! :)

Thanks @remiv, I don't know why I thought that would work on all platforms(magic?). I removed the OSX and Linux links.

Respect of the theme : Done !
Nice one, i would really appreciate an updated version of this game with, like, different kind of enemies, complex maps like tower defense etc...
Great first submission !

I like the minimal graphics - some music would have been great

I will see if I find time to develop the game further. I would also like to see what it looks like when finished :)

Definitely a cool concept, great for your first time out! Keep going in to Ludum Dare's, you'll be amazed at what you can make!

That was a neat idea. I had some trouble with the health bars occasionally resetting, and I also found myself really wanting the are seen by the magnifying glass to be zoomed in.

Yes good idea ! XD
I agree, the hot spot should be in the shadow center.

Second ant burning game I've seen today! still a really cool idea, yours is a bit more realistic with the time required to kill an ant but I'm not sure if that makes it as fun...
