It Overtakes Them by purenickery

[raw]
made by purenickery for LD32 (COMPO)
An unknown enemy is creeping towards the houses of you and your neighbor. The worst part is you don't have anything to fight them with, nor do you know what would even damage them. Every day you can push further and further towards wherever these monsters are coming from and put a stop to it once and for all.

Programming: Java with LibGDX
Art: Microsoft Paint and the Questicamatic! (an animation editor I made myself)
Sounds: sfxr
Music: Circuli

Controls (in case you don't catch them in the game)
-----------------------------------------------------
Move - AD or Arrow Keys
Duck - S or Down Arrow (<-- use this!!)
Jump - W, Space, or Up Arrow
Pick Flower - E (Pro-tip: picking flowers from the ground also heals you)
Throw Flower - E
Use Teleporter - X

Helpful Hints (only if you need them)
--------------------------------------
-already mentioned this, but use the duck ability, helps out a lot, the game tends to be very hard!
-you pretty much have to use all the teleporters to beat the game, find them!
-the machine at the end you have to throw flowers into the top, 8 of them to be precise

I hope you all enjoy it! If you can, please play to the end, I spent a lot of time on that part ;)

Changes
----------
-At 10:30pm Mountain Time I uploaded a new version that fixes players falling off the edge of the map and having to wait for a new day. (I am assuming winmac32 got the error because he downloaded it at the same time I was uploading the new version)

Dropping flowery ground across areas you've completed is neat, and the run/slide animations are awesome. Unfortunately this is just too hard for me, after several frustrating deaths I was unable to complete the game.

Nice and lovely idea :)
(You should put some barrier at the end of the platform. I fell off the level for the first time.)

Love the graphics and animations. The only thing i would tweak is the length of the days, they are a little bit to short in my mind.
Good job!

Really good take on the theme and enjoyable gameplay as well as music. I think the game might be just slightly too hard with the narrow platforms and the difficult jumping.

Very good: simple but effective graphics, good music and sounds, interesting concept. I will admit I abandoned at the cliff that needs lots of jumps onto small platforms (because there are lots of other games to rate) but I might come back to finish it :)

Great entry! Love the player design, and wall jumping? Particles? A nice concept (I like how the enemies are pacified and turned into "weapons")? What's not to like?

Oh, how am I supposed to survive night time, though?

I still haven't got to the end, but I really liked this entry. Something different, with nice art style and music.

thank you all for your comments they mean a lot to me!

@oparisy all the night-time does is transport you back to your home and regrow all the flowers, so there is no way to "survive" it. The goal of the game is to make it to the end in a single day (which is why the teleporters are there to help). Glad you liked the rest of it though!

Beautiful graphics and music, very immersive! Jumping up those small square platforms got quite frustrating. Very well put together though, nice job!
