The story of Takashi Nouke
——————————————————————————

Read the journal and scenario texts if you care what's going on.

move? arrow keys
shift? yes

Technical notes
——————————————————————————
- Tested on Firefox, Chromium and Chrome. Runs considerably faster on the latter two.
- For some people the sound doesn't seem to be playing. No idea why. As a workaround you could access the audio file directly: http://moc.sirtetris.com/ldd35/bgm/bgm.ogg

General notes
——————————————————————————
- I think giving the villagers more interesting (and/or consistent) behaviour as well as adding one or two more game mechanics would have been nice. Oh well ... it's something. :)

Fun facts
——————————————————————————
- Takashi's surname, 能化, is written with the characters for ability (能) and change (化). His spirit (the reddish thing you control) is made up of serveral 化 characters overlayed.
- The background image, although pixelated and upscaled to unrecognizability, started out as a large 狸 (tanuki) character. Tanuki are raccoon dogs known in Japanese folklore to have shapeshifting powers: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tanuki#In_folklore_and_tradition
- The background sound was actually recorded in Japan. I just put my camera next to an open window, recorded and caught some loud talking in the distance. Slowed it down a lot, repeated it, done.
- Best score I was able to get so far is 30.

first of all its awesome that you have a dom based game engine like mine (would be happy to talk to you on that subject), it seems you have a good understanding of js.

about the gameplay i tried its very hard and you need to be very accurate with the spirit to get results(they shift back too fast and when i get just a little far).
couldn't go pass the first level. took me awhile to get i need tho shift them first at the start before they get too close.

it was hard to click on the game over it kept on selecting (highlighting in blue)the text and the img.

but i loved the game idea.

I like the backstory and how it stays on the side bar. It give the game a really interesting feeling, like, methodical. I got to 9. I enjoyed that the shift key was the shift key. The style was nice and simple but not unthoughtful.

The story is really cool, however the game is really hard. A little bit too hard. I didn't get further than three people.

Very original concept and nice touches of humour. At first I had some problems to lure townspeople away, but it's easy to grasp after a while if you're paying attention. Great job!

Thanks everyone for the positive feedback! :)

For people who find it difficult: the key is keeping the villagers in groups of 3 or more, so that you can lure away indiviruals, turn them into women and then lure them back into the group.

Hmm, that's some interesting gameplay. I couldn't hear any sound using firefox or chrome, not sure if there was supposed to be some...

Anyway, thanks for playing my game! I hope you don't mind if I put a link to your video of my game in my game's description :)

At first I wasn't really sure what to do, but after a few tries I started to get the hang of it and was able to manage a score of 18. Not too bad, right?

The presentation is a bit minimal, but I feel it works with the mood of the game.

Good job!
