Robot Karma Joe by Jupitron

[raw]
made by Jupitron for LD31 (COMPO)
Robot Karma Joe is a classic platformer/shoot´em up style game where you have to control your soul to beat the intruders!

Get inside the robot and discover the power of your soul!

Seek for "Eyewatchers" with your soul to destroy the robot´s brain!

Watch out for tentacles!

CONTROLS
********
ARROW KEYS - Movement
Z - Shoot
SPACE (Hold) - Control your soul!

In game you may notice some icons that supposed to work in some way, didn´t have much time to implement a karma system and the hability to possess tentacles, might do it some day.

Made using:
-Construct 2
-Aseprite
-Lsdj with a DMG Gameboy
-Labchirp

I love it. Totally dig the music, and the game I eventually figured out. Note: You can shoot after you die...

Woah. Nicest game until now! Super nice zooming animation in the beginning. So it matches the current theme :D I love the tentacle enemies.
Will play that more often :)

Neat game. Surprisingly polished and creative for a 48-hour entry. But how does it fit the theme? :)

Visual effects in this are great. Music is really solid too.

The hitboxes need some tweaking though, it felt like I was getting hit was too early.

This is awesome! Graphics are great, gameplay feels really good. The only thing is that it doesn't really fit the theme :/. Otherwise great work!

The death sound made my ears bleed. The graphic style reminds me of McPixel for some reason.

Great platformer! I didn't read the controls description, so I destroyed all eyewatchers without single shot lol))

The "expose your soul" mechanic is pretty neat and fun, but I guess it kinda defeats the point of a platformer. Don't feel like facing all the perils along the way? Just send your soul. And the Z key isn't really intuitive for shooting, for a long while I thought the gun was just decorative.

I didn't really like how I could just send my soul through everything and skip having to defeat most of the monsters. Fun game though, the music is bumpin' and the story is really funny :D

Awesome stuff! I love how peculiar it is, really put a smile on my face!

I thought the zooming in on the brain for each eye hit was really cool. Not sure why, I guess you just don't often see that sorta jump cut in these sorts of games. (Or I don't, at any rate..)

Great job on the art, the sound is excellent as well, Wasn't sure if I should be a murderous prick at the start and shoot everyone. Did it anyway! Once I got inside the monster (i'm assuming that's what happened). The game really came to life and I had a bunch of fun! Great job.

Yay, I won! I loved the sound the monster made at the end, like slowly letting the air out of a balloon... Nice audio and I love the intro-- both make it feel like you're playing an old-school arcade cabinet. In awe of all the excellent graphics you created in such a short amount of time. Really nice work.

Awesome intro, very impressive! The game's good too, and the "soul" mechanic is interesting. I don't know why I should put my soul on the eyes, though. Is that how I win? The game just restarted after I got a bunch of eyes, not sure if I was doing the right thing.

I like the background stroy and the evil icon when you kill people.
I think the instruction that tell player to press space appear too early, I mean when this instruction show up there's no big eye nearby, it would be a little hard to know what to do next.

The art style of that monster is great, looks like the old-school cartoon.

And I notice that this game seems not fit the theme I though?

I liked the "Soul" mechanic. Being able to kill the innocent bystanders as you made your way to the robot was pretty cool. I really like it. Perhaps its me but I didn't get any music. I played it on GameJolt.

Nice little game! The fact that you can go into the giant robot is a pretty cool idea. I didn't really get the eye/ghost thing at first, but eventually I got it and killed the robot! Yay!

I love the intro sequence and how you kept everything to one screen via the zooming, etc. I see what you mean about the soul mechanic, how right now there's nothing to keep you from just wandering around as a soul and getting all the eyes, I think if you figure out a way to make it necessary to take the risk of moving around in your body then you could do some interesting stuff with it. Also I accidentally shot a dude in the beginning and felt terrible about it :( Please mind our colorblind friends when you pick your feedback for which eyes have been activated already. Occasionally the background was really busy with the game objects, but you could address that in a number of ways, a little desaturation on the backgrounds might be the simplest way. Good job!

I wasn't too keen on this - the physics were a little broken, the soul mechanic felt unfinished, the karma mechanic didn't seem to do anything, and when you died it didn't feel like it was your fault. The graphics were lacking some polish, and mismatched with each other. The theme interpretation was pretty good, with everything appearing on the screen at the beginning and then you having to go and explore inside the thing. The level design was decent.
