Oi! Menu!? by davient

[raw]
made by davient for LD31 (COMPO)
Oi! Menu!? Is a game of discovering the rules. One screen and everything is a game. Short sweet and evil. Seconds win, and less to lose. Will you serve the menu, or will it serve you?

@drdavient

You do not need to "Reset the Game" Everything is a winnable state... :) (will add a reset function later so can play again)

Built with Unity3D, Reaper, Photoshop, and my guitar and microphone

* Keep resolution to to 1024*768 (I'll FIX this soon)
* Windows Version was missing Data Folder.
* Mac version : Menu Input is broken right now.
* Rehosted Web version oat http://drdavient.com/games/OiMenu-Web.html (dropbox version wouldn't run live)

Joyful, scatterbrained, teasing and ultimately satisfying- you've managed to squeeze a lot of emotions into a short experience. Great achievement for an LD first timer :D

ah I seem to be the only one with problems. game starts, then "Start game" button disappears. can't play. Go to reload, get unity errors :S

Interesting concept. I could not complete the puzzle however, and if there is a reload option other than refreshing I did not discover it which makes restarting quite rough.

I have seen a couple of riffs on the "the whole game is on the main menu screen" idea, but this is the best I've played. The puzzle is clever, and the ending was quite funny. Very nice. 5/5 on theme for sure.

@LexGear - *spoilers* the Start Button disappearing is part of the game. Unity Errors are not. (I'll PM for details)

Clever. Too clever for me by far. XD

It'd help if we had some idea of what exactly we're trying to accomplish - I can save the little buggers from falling to their deaths, but I'll be damned if I can figure out what to do with (to?) them afterwards.

I won :D Very creative. Took some time before I understood I could move the player. This game with more levels/puzzles would make it great.

The plan was to get the bits that I have done by Saturday Evening And then spend the Sunday building new challenges and tasks for Fat Bob but naturally I didn't get finished with Part 1 till 1 hour before the deadline! Haha, I'll have to get better at time scheduling.

It's hard to get but once you do it it gets really funny!

A creative and out-of-the-box entry that puts UI design and the "Entire Game On One Screen" theme under a completely different light! :P

Hope you'll find the time to enhance this and make it better! Great job!

There is nothing much to the game, but a lot of weird random stuff. Cool idea making everything on the menu, and it was rather fun.

Good concept,
couldn't figure out how to beat it really (and I tried so hard.. I must be too stupid for this game. Or this game may be too stupid for me.. What do you think?._. )

Good approach with the theme, I liked this. I like making the player guess what this is and how he should play. (even though it seems I didnt get everything x3 )

Really funny, really confusing, really interesting. Took me forever to figure out what I was supposed to be doing. The customer and I died over and over until I figured it out.

This was a great little entertaining, innovative compo entry. These sorts of games where you need to "learn how the game functions as you go" are some of my favorite types of games, and this is definitely an enjoyable one of those. There was nothing really inherently wrong with it, it was short and sweet, and I managed to get to the end without any real issue.

The only thing I could suggest would be to give the player some sort of non-spoiler indication that the keyboard can be used with the game. It wasn't until you told me in chat that I could use my keys during the game that I was able to continue to figure out what to do.

The ending song? Also amazing. :) Needs to be available for download as soon as possible!

If I hadn't read the above comment I would've given up. So, now you know at least two things/ I give up kinda easy and the above comment told me to use the keyboard.

Hey Davient, I believe you may have had an issue when you played my game where enemies stopped spawning and you were unable to progress. I have since fixed the issue, and it would be great if you could re-rate my game. I think you'll enjoy it much more now. Thanks!

I thought I had rated this entry! Turns out I haven't yet. Sorry about that! This was a super great entry. The puzzle aspect of this was really fun. It wasn't just randomly clicking aorund, the buttons and the rules made a lot of sense. And the song was truly an amazing surprise! :D

Hilarious! I think it might even make sense to me, though undoubtedly there is humour on many levels. I also like the interpretation of 'one screen' being a menu screen.
