Colosse Duty by Kerdelos

[raw]
made by Kerdelos for LD31 (JAM)
Colosse Duty is the story of a Colossus who wanders through an ancient temple. However to see around him, he must touch a LightStone and carry it with him. But the temple is not as empty as it seems.

Arrow keys to move.
Space key to jump.
Z Key to attack.

Colosse Duty was made by 4 people:
Tyrannas provided the graphics.
Stardust1002 the music,sounds and programming.
Another of our friend helped with the music and sounds.
And I did the programming and the lighting.

The web version is pretty heavy so it may run smoother on a downloadable version of the game.

A little on the short side. I got one of the enemies to push the crystal for me allowing me to concentrate on battling. Neat little game.

There wasn't much of a game, the only challenge was rapidly tapping the attack button to kill the enemies, the crystals seemed unnecessary and just slowed progress down. Plus I don't see how you justify the connection to the theme at all. If there was more of a narrative with characters, then the lack of gameplay could be forgiven. As it is the graphics are really good for the time, and the art style is creative, but needs much more work.

The title remembered me of Shadow of Colossus and the graphics of ICO, so you got me there. Very interesting concept and moody!

The idea behind pushing crystals to move the camera is interesting but needs a bit of refinement.
The gameplay isn't very challenging, the graphics and audio are quite nice though.

Also, I noticed that the lifebar can prevent you to fall in the pit : it looks like it's part of the player sprite object and it shouldn't, it reacts as a solid

I'm stuck! I'm terrible at this game! Maybe I'm too tired from the Ludum Dare rush... Anyway, I can see you made some real work here, so cheers!

Quite short and not very fun, there is not much to do.
I wish you used the cristals more than just moving the screen, some puzzles with it would be nice.
Music is too repetitive. The graphics are nice.

It took me a bit to figure out the camera was following the gems around. That's a neat idea.

Unfortunately the game was really hard for me. The short-range attack seemed very difficult to judge if it would hit or not, and if you lose you have to replay the entire thing, which is pretty slow! And without hit invincibility on your character when you take damage, you might take a bunch of damage very quickly.

Nice art!

Oops, correcting myself, I was nearly at the end when I died. So that's not so bad to walk back there.

Gorgeous art, the music reminds me somehow of the Shadow of the Beast /in a good way!/ Really nice

Combat felt pretty unresponsive (range a little too short, not enough feedback on hit), and not much other content to go through.

Take a look at this video by the devs at vlambeer, a lot of their tips would help just about any action game (including yours!) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AJdEqssNZ-U

Nice central idea which suggests puzzle elements that never arose in the game itself. I felt the combat was a little unnecessary; could the diamonds have other uses than just camera focal points?

I thought the concept of keeping a crystal around was pretty interesting! I'm not sure if I see exactly how that ties into the theme, though. Also, I think the combat could use a little more love. Still, the graphics were solid, and the audio was pretty good - it added some nice atmosphere. Overall solid work!
