Globby Online by Diamonde

[raw]
made by Diamonde for LD31 (JAM)
INSTRUCTIONS -- Globby Online is an online game in which you compete with others to collect most coins. But don't fall off the island or you'll lose it all!

Globby is a friendly, but greedy glob. It does no harm to others, but it can push foes around till they drop all coins. Globby doesn't like coins that much, it likes only to have more than others.

The game was created by Robin Lindh Nilsson and Johan Carlberg.

Tools used: Meteorjs, Cloud9 Ide, pyxeledit, bfxr, Paint.NET.

EDIT: Added a post-ludumdare build, which may be continuously updated with new features.
(1) The leading player is crowned.

I'm the other developer for this game. Didn't have too much time in this LD, but this is something at least!

Only real downside is that there aren't 20 people playing. That would be awesome.

Neat little concept, it was hard to tell if it was there, but changing move speed and push power depending on collected coins would have been great. Not so much to do in the game if you are alone, obviously.

This is potentially a fun game, especially when there are more players! Unfortunately I couldn't play properly (my Internet connection is slow). Love the mood and style :)

The game creates some really interesting social dynamics, like everyone starts focusing on the player that has the most coins. I'd play with that more if I were you, maybe give the leader a crown to encourage that more. I already mentioned this in the chat, but I'd be cool if pushing also always just slows down the player. Right now there's really no reason not to push, so I was just pressing spacebar all the time. Anyway, interesting game!

Good job for a first timer!

Even though the game doesn't look really great, it's actually pretty fun to play, haha. I love trying to just push other people around :D

There were only 2 players online when I tried the game so this particular session was not much fun, but the potential for a good free-for-all is there. The interactions felt a bit limited, though, with the push as the only offensive move.

There was nobody online when I played it, but it looks very nice.

Very cute multiplayer game! I like the graphics and the use of the theme was well done especially having the entire page be filled with the water rather than just having a small window to play it in. The mechanics are very simple and easy to understand and having a chat beside the game is really nice way to laugh with others when you get a bunch of coins and fall into the water! I managed to get over 100 coins which was pretty funny since you start to become the target of everyone else. Really fun stuff, well done!

Fun game, but not really sure what the "attack" button does. Great job with an online game in the limited time constraints of the jam!

Hey, very nice!

It a shame I just got one person online to play with! It could be real fun with more people!

Some different characters and other kinds of attacks, and you could make a very nice multi player game with this!
