Polo by ChrisGaudino

[raw]
made by ChrisGaudino for LD31 (COMPO)
Leaving for a 2,300 mile roadtrip Monday morning, so had to keep it short and sweet for this LD.

Polo is a kind of single player pong. Bounce the ball of the matching color segment of the wheel. Use the left/right arrows or A/D keys to rotate the wheel.

This is genius... with some mobile porting you have something that could be the next flappy bird!

It's a really simple concept but this game is really addictif. I think you can improve it with some interesting graphics. I like it. Thank you for this great contribution ++

Very nice idea, and pleasing visuals.
Too bad it can't be controlled by mouse or analog pad. Rotation speed seems to be quite limiting with keyboard.

Thanks for the idea luker. Had a couple spare minutes, so I added mouse control and adjustable sensitivity.

Lovely mechanics - feels ridiculously good to play.

Quick fix issue - when I change the sensitivity then use the arrow keys it shifts the sensitivity whilst in gameplay.

The sound gets very repetitive quickly - get 3 or 4 different tones (different ones for the different coloured keys) with some kind of soothing tone.

Having multiple layers to this (a triangle in the middle which you rotate with A and D.

Thanks again for making this game!

Thanks Alex, managed to fix that sensitivity slider bug minutes before the submission hour ended.

highscore of 15, yaye! It's so much easier to play with the mouse-control than the keyboard. I used a trackball device actually, maybe it made a difference over a standard mouse.

Really cool for how little time you spent on it, really polished and professional.

Cool concept, it's a little tricky to get your bearings for the next rotation when you have no idea what the colour is going to be, it feels like there should be at least a minute hint as to what the next colour, like maybe the next colour could do a really faint and quick flash just before the ball hits the current colour. It's good fun to play though, nice and straight forward as well.

for keeping it short you put together a really nice game, obviously could use some graphic and sfx work, but its fun and a bit addictive.

The graphics could have been more stylized maybe. The particle effects were cool though.
The gameplay was good but it could have accelerated a bit less. I couldn't beat 10 bounces. I really enjoyed this game so much.

Very nice idea. I found that it quickly became too fast to have any hope of continuing and without knowing what the next colour will be you can't try to aim it at the right place. Maybe you could think of a way of making it get harder without just increasing the speed so that it never becomes 'impossible' and also show what colour is coming up next so that you can aim your shots.

It's a shame you wasn't able to work on this further because if you did, it'll probably be a lot more ridiculously addictive than it is right now :p. Absolutely loved the simple to learn yet hard to master gameplay.

Maybe become harder too faster...

Nice idea but it gets too hard too fast. It would be better if the difficulty increased slower. Also mouse controls would be the best IMO.
