Windows Cleaner Simulator by Instant Noodles

[raw]
made by Instant Noodles for LD31 (JAM)
Behind this title a bit ironic lurks our first game in a jam like the Ludum Dare.

A point'n click adventure with dialogs, morals choices and some windows cleaning awaits you !

We use phaserJs it's a pur html5 game, we used blender (3d engine) to make 2d pixel-art stuffs.
We test thing's that we never do before,
specialy work with people with different thinking (dev, gfx are different kind of guy) and way to work.

Play and find all the hidden stories. ;)

We get through it by cutting features and staying cool until the end.

Play our game, play other's too and enjoy it like we kind of suffer to make it !

Warning : the loading is a little bit slow.

# Known issues :
#1 : French to English translation issues, but it's part of the charm. ;)
#2 : Sprite bug when you ask for a cigaret
#3 : Most of the chatting animations loop have jump cut. (loop before the end of sprite)
#4 : Animations are slow.

Asset done and none inplemented features.
Missing Joseph (cleaning boy) animations
Missing sound effects

Nice little game! I first played knocking on each window, and then only cleaning.
I tried to interact with the guy who wants to date with the accountant, hoping to see a hot talk by the window but it didn't. So i told her to suicide :D :p

Great job, there's a real mood and atmosphere that i liked :)

Very nice graphics! Funny dialogue also :)
Runs a but slow for a simple game though

Well, it made me laugh. ;) I like the graphics and animation; bright, gets the mood across. The gameplay was simplistic, but that's okay. The text was kind of humorous sometimes, although I would recommend finding someone to edit next time. All in all, though, it was a pretty good effort, you should feel proud!

I bugged it a bit when I asked for a cig and then the sprites wouldn't go away from the main game screen, but I really liked what you did with your game! Feels really old school and I think it's actually really cool you guys used Blender, an unexpected tool for a 2D pixel game.

"Moral choices" :D You could have added some more movement. But I like the pixelated characters!

I like the minimalistic aesthetic from the music to the graphics. The gameplay is very simplistic, I would've wanted a bit more dialogue to fully justify it but still, this was a nice snack, so to speak.

Diferent to other games, a bit short but fun anyway. Congrats!

Thanks for all thoses comments ! :)
We had a few more animations and sound effect but we cannot implement them in time.
The problem of using a platform game engine for point and click is that you have to develop most of the textual interaction from scratch.
We'll be better on the next one. ;)
The cig bug is one of five the "cleaner man" animation not integrated before the end. :'(
And for the text, we are a French team, and as all French english is a bit tricky for us...

Thanks again.

Cute game! Not too long, not too short, has a really oddly uplifting vibe for me.

Funny game. I got fired the first time, but the second time I just cleaned windows and ignored almost everyone. I got my payment!

The snowman amuses me. :)

Cleaning a window didnt let me see the people inside, as is depicted in the main screenshot. Is that a bug?

the first time I played, all I did was clean the windows and eneded up thinking the game was pretty dull. Then I tried again, knocking and it suddenly made a lot more sense. :)

@ Binary Gambit : "Cleaning" don't make you "knocking" at the windows.

Very nice art style, interesting dialogues, good animations. A very nice game overall, with a clear amount of effort put into it. Wasn't too sure about the sound, however. Everything else, entertaining!

Well, it's very simple, it could be better if the dialog section would be more connected with character and have more interaction (yes, i made that person "take a rest from it"). Game graphics look good.

Nice graphics, and the game is very funny.

You should put some obstacles to the player to clean certain windows, and make him speak to people that ask for things that help eventually to remove this obstacles. Like in an adventure game.

This looks very simple and easy, but for an entry is great. I think you should continue working a little more in this game.. it has potential!

really nice game, makes me curious about each window, nice job!
i think you can improve the interface, it is too slow, really frustrating
maybe let the options in the side of the character, as icons ;)

I like the weird animal statues out front... I'm not sure if they are lions or elephants.
The rooms look nice. I wish the dialogue was more connected/interactive.
Sadly, I was vired for faffing.

Nice idea! Although it was a little annoying having to close the popup everytime, would be better if it just closed when you went to the next window. Love the hidden stories.

I kind of expected more feedback when cleaning windows - perhaps a better view inside. It didn't really affect the game other than completing it when you clean all of them. That was an issue with many of the other choices, too - none of them really seemed to affect the game. It was generally interesting to talk to everyone, but the good ending can only be achieved by cleaning the windows like you're supposed to. (I did this first time and didn't find anything interesting).
Generally a very pretty art style, and music was okay.

It's odd to say this, but the imperfect translations are part of the charm. "He live plenty more experiences". :P

The animations all looked nice, and it was a nice little game. Sometimes it seemed like the choices for pressing 1 and 2 didn't appear, so I had to guess. Still, nice game, and I liked the music.

Cool concept, it might have been nicer if the videos played behind the windows all the time (would give the whole thing a little more life!). The endings were kind of confusing - why did the game congratulate me for getting fired? Anyways, the graphics were pretty good and you used the theme pretty well, nice work!

I would have liked to have more relations between the stories. And maybe deepers stories.

It does I just try it, but it can be long to load (it's not very optimised... :o )
If you have a slow conection just let it open and when you have some sound it's that ready ! :)

Leo, nice job on the graphics! I downloaded the .blend and would like to know how you got the aliased, sharp pixels appearance as shown in the animated gifs on the blog post. Just rendering after opening has pixel blending/anti-aliasing happening. I've tried making pixel art with Blender in the past and always had problems with that.

As for gameplay - it's a bit strange! Also, the sound was too quite (and I had skype on in the background) so I couldn't hear it at all and thought it had no sound.

The option choices would be much better if you could just click next to them instead of the bottom of the window where it shows '1' and '2'.
There's animation of a woman falling out of a window, but that didn't happen in the game? Was this finished?
Overall, nice idea and cool design, but there's not much gameplay which is a shame.

Thx, for the pixels on Blender you have to unckeak the "Anti Aliasing" first, set a low resolution and try to use bright colors and high contrast stuff.
Then Blender will do the rest.

For the sound it's a know issue, music are made in .mod or something like that, it's not compiled but directly read by the engine, our sound designer was using this for the first time in a project (usualy he's more guitar with a lot of effects) and he discover than for setup the volume you have to fix every sample (a lot), no time to fix this at the end.

For the buttons it's the use of an "unadapted" game engine, phaser is made for platforming and have almost nothing developed for adventure and even less for point and click.
Just build windows with multiple choices was a chalenge for our dev, and you have any ways to interact directly with text, so we build generics buttons...
We'll do better next time. ;)

Hi thank's for all your comments.
We have work hard for our first game.
As @ranska the coder of the team i will post some detail on the choice,
Why we do pixel art with 3d (old old dream :), why there is not much story interaction.
And what we are going to do next.

1rst open source code .. I have to cleanup few thing's .. )
2nd explain witch part of code will be used to create phaserJS plugin.

I'am sur there is here lot of people who write code in JS or Coffeescript,
and i will be happy to discuss about.

This was pretty solid from a graphical and dialogue standpoint. I liked the multiple pathways and diversity of character reactions. The 1/2 choices had me wishing for keyboard input and better buttons.

It's a cool idea. I'd like to see what more you can do with it. I'm interested in the idea of telling a story in this way for sure, though.

Very innovative. Thanks again for checking out Natquik and voting/commenting. And congrats!
