Asteroid Control by FyberOptic
Unfortunately I spent very few of the available hours working on my entry this time, for various reasons (including a cold sapping my energy), so I'm not particularly happy with it compared to past entries. Feel free to rate it accordingly. But I thought I'd put it up anyway, because at least I tried, and that's what this is all about!
My initial inspiration was a bit of a combination of Asteroids and Star Control, though there's not a lot of gameplay added. Basically just shoot the asteroids before they hit Earth.
Controls are W to thrust, A and D to turn, spacebar or left-click to shoot.
This was written in Java using the LWJGL and Slick-Util libraries, with sfxr for sounds. Jarsplice was used to make a single JAR and EXE for distribution.
Source is provided under Apache 2.0 so feel free to use it for something else.

Fun game, too bad you didn't get the time to polish it. A simple points system (+ for shooting asteroids, - for things hitting earth seems the logical choice) could have made this a lot better.

Yay orbital mechanics! Gravity seemed a bit harsh until I realized I can't actually crash into the Earth myself. I'm not sure the edge wrapping is a good idea, because it throws off your orbit -- then again, you can use it to your advantage. Smooth gameplay, nice and simple graphics, too bad you didn't have time to put in win/lose conditions and such.

I like the clean graphics and the orbiting mechanic was a nice touch. Obviously some win/lose conditions and a point system would be nice... and after that a fun powerup system. Nice start though!

Not much content but overall very fun. A nice twist on the classic atari asteroid game.
