Complemental Doors by Aomeas

[raw]
made by Aomeas for LD31 (COMPO)
This maze is nothing like the others. It seems like a challenge to find yourself without losing your mind, a battle within death and life. Will you manage to find your way?

Controls :
All the game is keyboard only
A/D : Left/Right
W/Space : Jump

I used Love2D for the game engine, the sounds were generated thanks to sfxr. The music is obtained by modifying a piano loop with a variable pitch. Finally, the art was made using Gimp.

The way you managed to fit multiple levels on one screen was an interesting take on the theme. The puzzles were slightly confusing (which is a good thing) and the fact that world came to life with the colours only added to the awesome parts of this game. The art has a unique style (although the wall tiles are a bit boring) and I absolutely adore the music. I am astonished this was made in under 48 hours.
Keep up the good work.

Looking at the screenshots, I was thinking this would be pretty lame, but it actually felt kind of intuitive. Good job!

Thanks for the feedback!
@Enzo42: Where did you got stuck in layer 5? Top left room? You can go back through the door if that's the case. If it isn't that, that's a bug I need to fix :/

I liked the mood of the game, graphics and sound are lovely. I think it would be good, if the player don't go through the door automatically, but when pressing a certain key.

The movementation is far from good, but the puzzle is so tempting that I had to find all orbs. Its a pretty good (and new to me) idea to have multi-screen maze like this. I found all orbs surprisingly easy.

Great game, good job.

Cool aesthetics and the layered gameplay is interesting. Jumping didn't feel too good, but maybe that's just me. Good job!

Very cool! I'm impressed how much you packed into what's effectively a very short game. There's enough here to show you can do cool things with the mechanic, and it's not cluttered with anything that would get in the way of the major point (unnecessary jumping puzzles, etc.) The "aha!" moment when I realized how to reason about how to get where I want was awesome. Loved it!

There's some really great and clever level design going on here for only 48 hours! I also love the music! Maybe I was imagining things, but I kinda sensed the music changing as I found gems along with the colors, hehe. Good entry for sure! :)

Well done on this. It turned out very great. And thank you for not making me restart at the beginning when I touched that mouse! :D

Did you view all the levels at once with some sort of layering method while making them?

Loved what you did with the piano loop; I though it deserved a little more effort with the sfx than a simple "blip" :) Felt a bit lost in the map at times, but managed to collect all 7 objects. Good job!

Rooms are well layed out, it's a great puzzle, but quite déjà vu.
Nice graphics and soundtrack.
