Block Brigade by CodeNMore

[raw]
made by CodeNMore for LD31 (COMPO)
Block Brigade is a simple shooter - how many waves will you last? Use the mouse to aim, and click (and hold) to fire bullets! Avoid other bullets at all costs, and destroy all enemies. If you touch a block that is the same color as you, he will become your buddy and shoot with you!

Press space to place a bomb (because all good games have bombs!) and view the top-of-the-line particle system while playing!

~~

The first 15 hours of the Ludum Dare I wasted on a failed game idea, so this game was slowly made the rest of the compo time. I'm not extremely happy with the result, but hey, it's hard and fun, and I learned a lot about Dartlang while I was at it!

considering the time you've wasted on your first try, it's a nice game, but it's missing a Pause button.

This game gets really challenging. I would've liked it a little bit more with tank controls instead of world, but that's all about preference. Great job and keep it up! :)

With so many top down shooters new ones should stick out, and the graphics and lack of audio in this one didn't do much for me.

although the graphics were lacking, this is still a solid game. it gets extremely challenging later on when there are a lot of enemies onscreen. i never seemed to figure out what the pink squares do though, extra lives? helpers? either way, good job :)

I like the idea of picking up other squares.
Otherwise it is not a very original game, and it lacks sounds and graphics.

Really interesting. I think that you should create a cursor in order to show where the bullet rushes. However I like this. neat. Thx ++

Really cool!
What was fun was watching your allies piling up on you and somewhat defending you at the same time!
What was not fun was it did not have health packs, and everytime you placed a bomb, the screen went down as well.
Cool still, and good luck! :D

Pretty simple but still a solid game. Also nice particle effects.

Nice. I would like more types of bombs.

The game was fun, but pretty simple. It was already pretty difficult to hit the enemies since their hitboxes were so tiny, and adding more enemies just made it a slaughter. Maybe the enemies could have larger hitboxes, or grow and shrink to make timing your shots more strategic and not just shooting fish in a barrel (very difficult by the way!).

Some extra tips:

1.) You could have easily made the embed LD offered as a place to put the game directly so people don't have to do to a new page. We did, it's awesome!

2) When clicking to shoot the browser would start highlighting the page since you didn't disable click actions from propagating. You could use a combination of CSS for "user-select" and onselectstart hooks for IE.

Hi there. Like the look and feel, sounds and particles. Found it a bit difficult, only got to level 3. Good job!

I had a lot of fun playing this game. I think with a good set of graphics and sound this could evolve quite nicely. Great job for a 35 hour LD ^^

Graphics are to-the-point, I like them. The sound effects seemed to have a little delay on them for me, but other than that this is a really addicting game! Really could use some music and maybe even health bars.

Can't seem to make it past wave 11.

I like that the one screen theme was fit into being trapped on one screen kind of. That was cool. I liked this game.

It is a bit simple, but function and fun. I got to wave 9.

An interesting idea of having the powerups latch on to the player and take hits for them.

Really cool game, I think I was pretty bad at it though, only got to wave 6.

You should try out velocity prediction with regards to the bullet fire, that'd be a cool extra for things like this. But the core game works well, enjoyable. Works both as a sort of.. dodging simulator and an attacking game. Nice one.
