Contest Simulator: Studio Winning by atrodo

[raw]
made by atrodo for LD31 (COMPO)
After answering an ad in the newspaper, you find yourself locked in a studio apartment, with only access to the mailbox. With magazines arriving daily, your only option is to send postcards to try and win contests. If you earn enough, they may let you out. Or, there may be a zombie apocalypse.

I was really confused with what I was supposed to be doing... maybe if you gave some kind of information from the beginning where the text shows up with instructions of how to play, it'd be better.

I really like games like this - games that make you imagine. They can create a better atmosphere than graphics - even as absurd an atmosphere as being locked in an apartment with salvation lying in winning contests.

Huh, it's like my life if the power went out... Oh dear...

Weird. I'm pretty sure I should have died of hunger by now.

Strange concept, but interesting. The game is pretty unclear, which might be the point. I'm not sure if there's any way to refill the food.

Mm, needs a bit of work. I don't know how to refill the food. I assume "F" is food and "H" is hunger; is "P" postcards? It doesn't seem to entirely correlate to how many postcards you have...I mean, you can have 0 postcards but a nonempty P bar. Do the couch and bathroom do anything? Finally, the game seems to have a certain *lag* to it. I click and it takes a couple seconds for something to happen. So...good try, now try improving it. ;)

Hi there. Like the idea, the interface. Got stuck after second mail delivery, no food, no way to get food... Had $427 from winning, but no way to spend ?

I know it's the style of the game, but it would have been nice to had a bit more graphics.

The ending: "Oh. Oh, okay."

Interesting concept, though I was quite confused initially on what I was supposed to do. Then I ran out of food, and I kept wondering how to get food. If the game was explained a little better (e.g. "you only have a limited supply of food so ration it"), then I might enjoy this game a bit more.

Very innovative, but it is confusing how to play. After day 1 I ran out of food and on day 6 I died from no food. You should be able to eat the couch though. :P

Do you get food in the mail? I couldn't figure out how to get more. A way to speed up time would be nice. Interesting concept.

This is really innovative, I liked it a lot! You really feel immersed in the story, even with these simple graphics.

Interesting take on the theme and good idea! But not much to do, if you had more tasks and a clearer direction on what to do it would be even better :)

Why can't I eat the couch? uncool.

It was weird, but surprisingly fun to play. It was a bit confusing at the beginning, but after awhile you get hang of it. The story was the best part, although there's not much to do. Better GUI and perhaps a simple sprite portraying main character, even a big red square would help.
Anyway a good entry, and good job!
