Made with Game Maker 8 in 48 Hours for Ludum Dare 31- Entire Game on One Screen

Story
A game developer, who was previously unaware of Ludum Dare, was browsing Twitter, when he saw a message saying '3:15 until we find out the Ludum Dare theme!' He had heard of Ludum Dare before, but had never really searched it up. So he went on Google and searched 'Ludum Dare' and found out what it was. It was a big game making competition. He found out there was 3 hours and 13 minutes until the theme for Ludum Dare is announced. He read through the rules and decided to enter. He was talking to a friend about it on Facebook in another tab. He was entering too. As it was his first, he asked his friend on Twitter for any tips. He was given some links, which he went through. He also found his way to a sound generator on a website, which he downloaded as it may come in handy.

The theme was announced, Entire Game on One Screen. So the game developer started his idea.

The Game Developer originally wanted to use his own programming language, HallettCode (http://hallettcode.webs.com), but thought it was a bit too unreliable as it is in Alpha stages, so he decided on Game Maker 8.

He was able to finish his game- he called it 5NAKE. He published it for the competition, alongside the source code so the player can play it and the judges can judge.

Someone stumbled along this game and was interested. You decide what the player was interested about with 5NAKE. Perhaps he wanted to see the source code, or maybe he liked old game remakes. Maybe he was a judge. The game developer also went to play and vote on other games. What he wanted most, is the chance to be voted high, and to win. Winning the LD competition was his dream

This is a true story. I know this because I am the game developer in this story, and you are the player. Please help me win. Please upvote my game, I put a lot of effort into making it!

It's a good game, these are my comments, while playing:
-WOW, there is nothing to this! What died, refresh *5
-Oh, arrows are to move, arrow kills? Cool, refresh.
-You don't even get longer, just this fruit collecting while difficulty increases.
-Oh, so you do get longer after time. A cherry!
-Wow, there is score, wow I never saw that there.
-Let me read description.
-Arr I ran into a rock at 23 score.
-WHAT, R TO RESTART, COOL, WHAT ELSE.
-So 30 is boss! Gosh I was almost there, let me collect apples now and get there quick.
-I can't seem to pass 6 anymore, since I only die. :3

Dude, in those comments, there are things there that users would experience, so you'd need to do something about it, since no one (me for example) would want to read that long story-like description you have. It's long like a terms of agreement from to install a software, that I'm sure even you skip without reading.

Still an okay game, but please update this before Ludum Dare ends. I'll be waiting! XD

I learned to program from Nibbles in QBasic, and I think it's rather nostalgic to think of making this game in 48 hours.
Reading the comments below I'm seeing that there's a boss? That's interesting. I might have given it more time if I knew I was working up to that.

Pretty good game. I liked the tile set you created. Couldn't beat the boss!

Sometimes the arrows spawn right in front of you and you just die, which feels unfair.

Snake with bombs? Sweet. =D

Controls sometimes felt somewhat unresponsive, but that's nothing major.

In 3 hours I'd say you've done well. =) Fun game.

A very challenging snake game, with good ideas. But once i died for no visible reason.

I liked that you added a number of new features to distinguish this from every other Snake game out there, though the rockets could be a bit awkward at times when they would spawn right in front of me with no time to dodge. The graphics are a little hit-or-miss, but that's understandable given a 48-hour deadline. Nice work!

I like when people make a remake of some old game and bring up tons of awesome refreshing features!
Great!

Not a bad snake game. I liked the arrows flying around and the blocks appearing, and it never seemed like they appeared in unfair places. Unfortunately, at the rate I was dying, there was just about 0 chance that I'd make it to the final boss. Still, it seemed pretty well made, so good job!

I enjoyed this game but sometimes the apples got boxed in and I could only eat them if I committed to dying immediately afterwards. Sort of like having a burger king meal. Great work though, well done!

Fun to play. Good idea to add enemies. However, a snake should get longer when eating the stuff, to make it more diffitult.

@yodamaster The snake does get longer :/

Thanks for the feedback everyone- it means a lot to me, especially for my first Ludum Dare!
Just a few thoughts that came to mind whilst reading the comments-

'Dying for no visible reason'- that would be an arrow or something- arrows spawn around the edge.
The game was supposed to be difficult- it made it that little more interesting
and yeah, I know, I'm a bad artist- I can't do art to save my life XD
