$2000-$3fff by ianh

[raw]
made by ianh for LD31 (JAM)
$2000-$3fff is a Commodore 64 program which displays its entire memory on the screen, then draws missiles into it.

Use a joystick in port 1 to target your dangerous explosive weapon. If you don't have a C64 handy, feel free to use an emulator like VICE (linked below).

Defend program data and program code from the oncoming attack! Try to survive as long as possible before the fabric of reality is corrupted beyond recognition!

Oh. My. God. I don't think I would ever see an entry to a modern game competition on the C64. I had to dust mine off to take it for a spin on an EasyFlash (ironically the last cart I have). High marks!

I love this! I've always imagined a game that destroys itself and was amazed at the thought. This is very neat!

This is a work of art. It is beautiful. I cannot imagine the mentality that would lead you to develop a game for an ancient game console for a 72 hour game development event, but massive props!

Are you kidding me?!?! This is amazing. It's for the commodore, and it actually works and is fun! Flying colors!

Bloody brilliant. Gave me an excuse to show my kiddo what computers were like back in my day.

Can't believe I actually downloaded a C64 emulator to play this :).
I had a lot of fun being all nostalgic :)

I felt like a champion just getting your game to *run*, let alone be able to play it. Actually, it would be helpful if you provided information on controls. I could only watch helplessly as my memory was corrupted! Great idea though!

I expected joyport 2 since most classic C64 games prefer that...other than that this is most excellent.

Delightful! took me a bit to find the joystick controls in VICE but it's quite interesting to play with.

Amazing idea, there need to be more LD entries for old computers/consoles! Really liked the effect of the game's data becoming corrupted as more missiles get through too.

I was about to use this interpretation but for 16-bit x86 + VGA. Kinda burnt out before I had the chance to implement gameplay, though, so no entry from me this time.

I love the concept already. If I haven't tried this, prod me on #ludumdare (nick: greaser - I use a shell).

For those wondering, I found the easiest way to get the game running was to open WinVice and then drag and drop the .prg onto it!

Very impressed to see a c64 entry :)

didn't think i'd see anything like this in ludum dare! the gameplay was not especially exciting but the concept was good enough to be one of the most interesting entries i've played so far. was fun to play a few times and see the different ways things would break.

also, hello greasemonkey!

Wow, pretty amazing! I love the idea of showing the computer memory as the playfield. My one issue is that it didn't feel "game-y" enough, like you really weren't "playing", just fooling around to see what happens. But hey, for what it is, it's great. ;)
