Twisted Fantasie by wandersenus

[raw]
made by wandersenus for LD31 (COMPO)
This is a MOBA-style strategy game, it's like turn based LOL or Dota but with many unique mechanics.

How to play:
We start at using the player at the right top corner of the tiles
click on neighbour tiles to MOVE there, click on current tile to perform
ACTIONS.
In base, you can click on the buy icon on the right panel to boost your character status.

ACTIONS:
On jungle tile(tiles of non-moving monsters): fight the monster
On buff tile(tiles of scroll/flower/boots at middle of map): get the buff to your character.
On creep tile(tiles of moving monsters): boost your creep by the amount of your attack and defense.
NOTE: killing Creep doesn't grant you money!

3 victory Conditions:
Wealth: Being able to gather 5000 gold
Legendary: Being able to kill Sauron
Dominance: Being able to gather 1000 creeps at the enemy base.

Defeat Conditions:
enemy creep get into your base
Pass the 100/200/300 turns without victory depends on the difficulty level

I managed to win this game once
Part 1: http://wandersenus.com/LD31/sauronwin.swf
Part 2: http://wandersenus.com/LD31/sauronwin_1.swf

I win this game because of the bug that make my creep stuck haha. This game have received too many critiques because of its lack of instruction.

If someone understand this game willing to make better wording for the description will be highly appreciated.

Not easy to grab, but respects the theme. You should maybe print the log with new info on the top. It will be easier to understand what happens.

You should say it's a "moba-style" game, It could help to understand faster the game.
I helped my minions, but I never get money ! It was endless so I sadly stop :(

Ps: best logo eva :D

@Yaroslav Kravtsov sorry for my bad. I have added some infos. I was too bad to assume that most people know that in this kind of MOBA game the player will start from left bottom corner or right hand corner

Not sure exactly what's going on. The instructions weren't very clear on what you have to do, and it's often not clear which tiles are counted as 'adjacent', nor was it clear you could move onto tiles with 'monsters' on it.

The instructions are also seem to use odd terms for things. I have no idea what Jungling and Creeping are. There are apparently Jungle tiles and Creep tiles, and I can only fight monsters on Jungle tiles (though that doesn't seem to be the case since I can fight monsters anywhere). But I have no idea what they are and the instructions are unclear on it.

Basically the instructions are as abstract as the game is.

Graphically it's lacking. Obviously. Though each enemy graphic does kind of let you know what it is, it could be made more clear that each enemy *sits on a tile*. Either by making the tile it's sitting on bigger than the graphic, or by showing the connections between tiles.

Interesting take on a turnbased moba. I found it really frustrating that I can't defend the base on my own, or even stop an enemy mob from progressing towards it. Is there some way to damage or fight them while they're on the move?

I like the music and sound, but this game has big communication problems. I really don't understand what is happening, my objective or how I win or lose even after I read the instructions.

Waaay to complicated in my opinion, and the graphics doesn't make it clearer. Next time, try introducing mechanics gradually instead of throwing a wall of text in my face. I'm sorry but I don't want to spend 10 minutes learning before I play.

@GeeItSomeLaldy sorry for my unclear Instructions, I may restart on doing it later. I am Indonesian and English is my third language. I have tried to let people know about the place that we can go by creating some kind of walls between tiles.

I think that we can fight on jungle tiles and creep tiles. But, I made it so that we need our own creep in order to be able to attack the enemy creep so that the game more interesting.

Maybe I am not very good at expressing things in English :(

Thanks for the graphics suggestion. I hope I will do better at post-compo

@Norgg I think this is the interesting part of the tradeoff of the game, you can't just cut the way and kill the enemy monster which means that if you have good items doesn't mean that you can make your base safe or your creep go to enemy base safely

I was really confused. Too much reading, first of all... But as soon as it started I could see it was a mobs-like. But... It didn't hold my interest. And crashed as I got to the middle bit.

Sorry, I love boardgames-like things but this one was really tough to get into.

As others have said, it is not easy to grasp on at first. Basically a turn-based MOBA. I would add something like that in the description. But once you know what you are doing it is fun.

Confusing at first, but it hits the theme very well. It could do with being a bit larger on screen for old gits like me. Oddly enough, this might make a good board game.

Nice use of the theme. I also had trouble grasping the mechanics, describing it as a MOBA really helped so thanks commentators. Solid, but I think things could be made clearer.

It's fun and seems to be pretty much Dota/LoL as a turn based game. However, it seems to be impossible to win even on easy. The enemies always overwhelm my creeps and there's no way to defend all three lanes and earn gold at the same time.

I can't seem to be able to win.

But I always get my base invaded...

It took me a bit to understand what to do (the instructions opening in a new window did not help). I read some of the comments, and then it was better--oh, it's dota ;). Cool idea, and cool that you could pull it off in the time allotted.

Interesting. Took me a while to figure out what was going on. Even then I didn't quite understand exactly why I lost sometimes. It may help to have a bit clearer instructions, or maybe simplify the game just a little.

thanks everyone for the constructive comment,I have won a game once and posted the videoin the description.

I want to ask about whether this game could actually work or not. If this game could work, I maybe want to debug , or even refactor and redraw the graphics to develop the game further. But looking at the truth, I think maybe the idea behind this game is too complicated and I should write a post-mortem soon.
