Monster Buster by AsixJin

[raw]
made by AsixJin for LD31 (JAM)
You are sent to a dungeon to clean all the monsters up! Don't worry though because for Ludum Dare 31 all you have to do is get rid of some lowly slime, but it could get rough. Use the arrow keys to move and the space bar to advance battle text. Battle with an enemy begins when they are adjacent to you. Music can be muted with the M key. Have fun!

-on 12/09/2014 I fixed a bug that wouldn't allow you to move after a battle.

Everything in this game was made by me, however the only thing not done within the 72 hours was the music which I did in FamiTracker about a year ago.

Please give feedback! This is my 1st submitted Ludum Dare game and I really wanna know how I did. If you encounter any bugs please let me know in the most direct way possible so I can fix them for others (or if you wanna come try again).

This has good foundations, a battle system with enemies and exploration and experience at least (I did not encounter levelling up)

The movement block by block made it impossible to tell if you were moving in long, repetitive passages. The fighting seemed a bit slow paced to me, as well.

I like the graphics.

I got stuck in one of the hallways on the left side of the level. I liked the graphics though.

I did not rate this and did not finish it -- sometimes the arrow keys seem to get stuck so you cannot move in certain directions to continue.

Overall a good first game! The use of the theme and the graphics were nice. The music wasn't half bad as well. I did encounter a bug, I believe, which wouldn't allow me to move up and down.

I was completely unaware of this movement bug! Thanks everyone! Are we even allow to fix bugs during the judging phase?

A wild slime appeared!

Neat game - not keen on the block by block movement but it fits the turn based style :)

Good work!

I see a lot of people aren't too happy with the gird based movement I implemented. It was easier to work with cause I haven't quite gotten use to how to move things in Unity. That is my goal! Thanks again for the feedback!

I prefer the grid movement i see it in a lot of games like this! Good job, nice entry with simple gameplay. I like it!

Like others, I had problems with movement after battles. Certain directions would stop working for some reason and I couldn't advance.

I like limited-resource RPGs, so I'd love to see what the game would be like if you fixed the bugs.

Still can't move to the right after fighting a slime. This doesn't happen all the time, but about 30% of the time after a battle, moving right is disabled.

Nifty game! And congrats on your 1st submission! This was the first time I finished in time to submit as well, and I too didn't have time for music. Hopefully next time around we both will!

I wish there was more to it.
I looove the presentation - low-res tiles, grid based movement and that HUD is like 50% of the screen - just like in early Ultima games! Music is fine as well.
This delay in fights (moster thinking thingie) is completely unnecessary. But overall, the game is just too easy and too shallow, there isn't really any strategy involved. Just mashing the space. :P
Oh, at one point I was fighting an invisible slime! :D
