Shooting Things in Space by oatsbarley

[raw]
made by oatsbarley for LD31 (COMPO)
A small competitive strategy game in space. Build your resources up and destroy the enemy planet, all while harassing their ships.

I haven't been able to test the Linux version so it might not work or there may be issues with it.

the controls are very satisfying :D, the way you can swing and curve while firing at resources/enemies.

Oh man, the controls are silky-smooth. The explosion effect is probably my favorite part. Very well done!

Was pretty opaque about a lot of the stuff that was going on (I initially had no idea I already had a fighter in-game, was looking for a way to produce them), and seemed that the harvesters didn't work in the second game.
Other than that, pretty nice, appealing visual look.

Teeny tiny little player character works well for me. Trying to shoot the little harvester things is quite addictive. :)

I like the combination of quick action dogfighting and strategy elements. The controls of your little ship were really nice and really felt like you're in a space style dog-fight. Couple of points:
-Probably need a bit of a penalty on your ship being destroyed. Currently you just respwned instantly so in the end I stopped caring about being shot down.
-Need to stop the player form being able to fly off the screen because as soon as you do your ship gets completely lost!
Nice game though :)

I loved the low-poly graphics. I found the controls hard to use a bit, and I didn't really understand what was going on with my resources. This did satisfy a certain "pew pew" need though. :)

Loved the art style. Controls were really smooth, though I found it quite challenging to hit anything! I love the concept of combining a strategy and a shooter, definitely an idea worth developing.

The concept is just amazing. This is a simple yet such great idea:setting up the elements of a standard space strategic game but actually give player the control of a fighter ship. That immediately feels like my actions matter more than usual. I'm not just shooting up stuff in space, I'm doing it as part of a larger plan... Brilant! The gameplay himself is not perfect yet (I find a bit hard to aim and steer by example) but you did a overall nice job on realization. I would love a game like that, with both action and strategic options. Very inspiring thanks!

I had problems understanding how the resources connected to the rest of the game, and what the objective was. Liked the look and feel of the ship you were controlling!

Really neat game! I Included it in part 12 of my Ludum Dare 31 compilation video series, if you would like to check it out :) http://youtu.be/Wy_mvMH2L7Q
