Take out the Trash in Space by Ult

[raw]
made by Ult for LD31 (JAM)
It's a long long time in the future and space has been polluted. As a mere garbage ship, you must match 3 garbage blocks of the same color in a row before they overrun and destroy you! You are humanity's last hope probably! Go do something!

Move with mouse, shoot with left click, pause with right click.

Overall there are a few glitches still abound (mostly of the "was that block supposed to disappear?" variety), but it's essentially still playable.

I did the code, gfx, and sfx, while KFaraday did the various tunes.

UPDATE: Fixed a couple things people were complaining about.

Felt like back in 1988, great music + graphics!

This was cute. It's like sideways tetris or columns.

Hey fellow dev, very fun game!
It might have been more "smoother" visually if the ship also snapped to a grid like the blocks.

That was bizarre. It was definitely the strangest match-three game I think I've played. It could have used a bit more refinement on the gameplay, the movement was a little clunky to line up with the tiles and there seemed to me something triggering sound effects that I couldn't see. The sound effects were good though, and the music was a perfect fit.

I enjoyed the retro style graphics and sound. Nicely done.

I liked the graphics and audio but I think there's a problem with the balance, most of it is too easy to play, except for the instadeath when touching a block, which is very brutal.

Still fun to play though :)

This just in: the game now speeds up over time, adding much more of a challenge.

The game feels great ! I'd be nice if the ship had a better visually represented hitbox howevere. The music is spot on and the sounds effects works well.

Good job !

The ad before your game never loaded so I didn't play it. Bummer.

Loved "You are humanity's last hope probably!" - hilarious! Great little tetris game, first time I've moved along the vertical axis on this style of game :D Great little compo entry - good job!

Fun game, but I wish there were something more to the mechanics, like a way to combo or something. As it is, there's no real strategy -- you just match with the closest available tile.

Nice topic, in that space trash IS some kind of problem that is attracting more and more attention nowadays.
The audio is awesome. The background music somewhat reminds me of Touhou game series' music... I don't know if you have heard of them?

@DonovanWu actually, the background music was originally composed as a parody of ZUN's style known as "Fantastical Brain Injury: Writing the same song for 15 years"

Fun game, I think it would be better if the blocks self destroy after they detach from the group.
