Christmas Crusades by Tridecimal

[raw]
made by Tridecimal for LD31 (COMPO)
I took my inspiration from Fire Emblem. You play as the Elves and try to destroy all the Snowmen invading the North Pole.

Each Elf can take 3 moves before he ends his turn.
To battle, an Elf and a Snowman must be on adjacent tiles after all moves have been completed.

Controls:
-Left click on adjacent open tile to move an Elf one space.
-Right click anywhere to cycle through your Elves.
-Click on the Elf to waste a move

There are two weakness circles in the game. They are shown at the top of the screen. They both work for both sides. In other words, each class has 2 classes it beats and 2 classes it loses to. The weakness circles are read as the class on the right beats the class on the left.

If an Elf and a Snowman engage in battle as the same class, they will both lose one life.

Each soldier can take 2 defeats before it dies.

*I apologize for not having a web version. I could not get GWT to work with libgdx.

Loving the strategy in this one. It almost plays like a puzzle game, reminds me of peg solitaire for some reason :)

I found that if I cycle to the last elf in the list and then move him three times, it ends my turn even if I hadn't finished moving the other elves, which can kind of unexpectedly ruin your plan.

It would have been cool to have the strengths/weaknesses highlighted for the current selected character. The most time-consuming thing in the game is looking at the key at the top trying to figure out which class is good against which.

Also, good job with the piano music, it's pretty cool :D

Sincerely, I think the graphics are a bit uncomfortable.
"[...] the class on the right beats the class on the left."
Shouldn't it be the opposite? It took me some time to understand how to really play...

Having said that, it's a fun game. :D Not really that hard to remember the weaknesses, since looking at the left circle, the two classes a class beats are the two immediately to its right, so it's just a matter of remembering the order they appear there.

Nice job ^^

Cool game, took me a little while to figure out how I could wait with elves by clicking on them.

Couldn't get it to work on OS/X 10.9.5 :( All I got was a JarRsrcLoader application that didn't do anything.

Despite the bad controls I had a lot of fun playing it.
The strategy involved in the position of each eleves is very challenging.

There's a bug where sometime the game end turn when I still have elf left.

For the control I would have done :
- left clic for selection
- left clic for move
- right clic for spend ALL move left & cycle to next elf.

You should move the snowman one by one with small pause betweend each move so player can understand what happens.

The blood to show defeat is a good idea.
You could have show move left with small colored dots above elves on your turn.
