Silian Rail by Warboys

[raw]
made by Warboys for LD31 (COMPO)
Silian Rail is a game about earning the finest Business Card in town; President of Pierce & Pierce.

Through lies and deceit, you must search the office for rumors about fellow employees... then take them down by smearing their reputation with said rumors. You'll be sure to get that promotion!

Be careful though, as your immoral actions can literally backfire against you.

Silian Rail is part action, part bullet hell, and even feels a little stealthy (despite no stealth mechanics).

Aim for the top!

Funny game. The hitboxes are super wonky though and most of my deaths were from when I got stuck on a wall for no good reason.

This games show what it would be like "rumors fly everywhere".
The character is always stuck by others though.

Like others have said the hitboxes are a little weird and I kept getting 'stuck' on things, but still, an awesome game!

Love that I'm distracted trying to read what's being said about my colleagues as my own rumours then rebound to smack me in the face

Nice farcical tone, matches the irreverence of the gameplay very well. Great UI solutions (namecard) and dressing (ticker), helps a lot to add meaning to the game world. Possible extension would be to use the cliché 'a web of lies' making further use of the 2D plane. Good stuff!

Rumor rumor rumor... The idea is original. It's weird but it's fun. It's so fun. Rumor rumor. Fun. Die! *shoots rumor*.

Despite the odd hitboxes and getting stuck when I run into things, I still had lots of fun with this! Great job!

Great job! Really awesome game but too fucking hard! :) Or I just suck at the controls. You should fix the sticky collisions, add control support, add more levels and some story along with some old school 2d cutscene inbetween levels and I would totally buy the shit out of this! :D

This was lovely; Paranoia, The Game. I like the idea that every time you did some awful gossip-mongering, the more likely you are to get caught up in it yourself.

Oh, this is great. Very well done on the actual business cards, I'm not sure why it was so satisfying just typing my name in! I'm not sure why, but I guess I was hoping for a.. totally different kind of game?! I dunno, that's weird isn't it? I guess I felt like the game didn't do the theme/premise complete justice. I guess I just wasn't expecting a dexterity/skill game! Anyway, nothing against the game, that was just my strange experience.

As for the game, I liked how you eventually flooded the area with these rumors sort of like negative vibes, like you could see the negative work environment you were creating, all by yourself!

The music and the mechanics went very well together, I really loved the phone on the soundtrack.

Great entry, never seen anything like it. I loved the fact that the rumors stayed around so the more you did the harder the challenge was. Great concept. I would love for it to actually point in the direction I am aiming so I could move while not looking at my character directly. Thanks for sharing, it is excellent.

Really fun gameplay. Unique idea. I like the music a lot. Only improvments I can suggest would be some kind of stealth aspect, so that you have to try to be sneaky, and would be cool too if you couldn't stuck at walls or objects when you run against them. But a really nice work.

Game is awesome! Song is amazing. My only feedback is to attempt to make the collisions a little less 'sticky" :).

Awesome work!

Oooooooh this game!!!!

The controlls are a bit chunky, as the collision detection gets you blocked on walls.

Now that the bad things are behind us, I LOVE THIS GAME. The way rumors "bounce back" to you, the theme, the concept... great job!

I really like the concept behind this game. The way that you have to manage space and try to keep in mind the way that the game will progress - getting more difficult as you advance through the ranks - creates very interesting gameplay. Unfortunately, the collision was very problematic and caused numerous gameplay issues such as unpredictable reflections of the rumors and causing the player to get stuck on the environment. I think these problems could definitely be solved with a little bit of preparation. Very nice job overall, keep practicing and you'll have a much easier time on your next LD!

Nice concept, though after time, everything gets out of sync. I Included it in part 16 of my Ludum Dare 31 compilation video series, if you would like to check it out :) http://youtu.be/3EfYtGD2H88
