Daybloom by fleegle2000

[raw]
made by fleegle2000 for LD31 (COMPO)
Daybloom is a game about balance.

I decided to go the minimalist route. It actually fits several of the themes that were proposed. I interpreted the theme literally and made a game that fits on one screen - no panning, scrolling etc.
As with my previous LD entry, the game is a short experience. Enjoy!

Linux users: Please note that the zip file contains both the Windows executables/dlls and the .love file that you can run in Linux. I thought it would be easier to distribute if there was just a single download - sorry for the confusion.

I'm sorry to hear that you're having difficulties - I am a Chrome user myself and I didn't get those warnings. You could try changing your security settings but other than that I'm not sure what to suggest.

Very nice game, nice graphics, it helped that there were a story and dialogues to walk me through.

Love the graphics, sound and story! Mechanics seemed a bit random, so game is winnable mainly by trial end error, but as an experience it's great.

I won! And then lost! Pretty shapes, and sometimes the shape gets weird but that's cool. Then I wondered if it's supposed to be a two player versus game. hmm

I really like the idea of this game. I wish the argument-dialogues were a bit further developed, but still a very interesting concept with some light real-world messages tied in :-)

rzuf: Yes, the mechanic is a little random and for the post-compo version I plan on tightening it up a bit more.

Bernhard: You could very easily play it with two players on the same keyboard :) That wasn't my intention but it's a really good idea. Multiplayer could be added in the post-compo version.

ChronusZ: Thanks for the feedback - I've been meaning to implement a dialogue system for one of my other games and decided that this would be a good opportunity to develop one. I will definitely be adding more dialogue possibilities in the post-compo version.

Very nice! I like the concept, and the simple controls. And adding the little story to it made it more engaging :)

Your linux .zip seems to contain .exes and .dlls =(

@Mokosha - I provided a single zip file with both the Windows and Linux files inside. There should be a Daybloom.love file in the zip - you need to have Love installed in order to run it.

Very pretty, but I';m not sure how it works, even though I (think) I beat the game. Is the object just to keep the sun from going all spikey?
🎤 fleegle2000
11. Dec 2014 · 15:23 UTC
@Justin Mullin: The goal is to strike a balance between the sun growing too large and becoming too erratic - I'll try to make it a bit clearer in the post-compo version.

soundtrack is really awesome but i dont like the error trial gameplay

11. Dec 2014 · 18:04 UTC
@Divitos: not sure why you're getting that error - I know that some systems don't support the canvas system Love uses. It sounds like the error is happening on load so I suspect that is the case for you. Unfortunately there's not much I can do about it - sorry.

@5k0d: Yes, I need to provide a bit more feedback/less randomness. I plan on tweaking that in the post-competition version.

That was interesting to say the least. Also felt really short. It was hard to tell if the being is agitated, but at least its size was obvious.

I'm not really sure what I was supposed to be doing in this game, but its a cool audio/visual experience at least. Nice presentation and a good sense of atmosphere. Maybe a bit more explanation on things would be nice? Good stuff though.

intriguing game, it's a nice visual experience, great surreal mood. It would be nice to have some clear instructions, and sometimes the dialog boxes got stuck on screen, a very beautiful game anyways.
