Traffic Cop by ondrejbalas

made by ondrejbalas for LD31 (COMPO)
Traffic Cop is a riveting game where you watch traffic that behaves in unpredictable ways, but like a real traffic cop are powerless to impact change.

It was my first attempt at a Ludum Dare, and while I learned a lot in the process I was ultimately unsuccessful. If you "play" it, I hope that it amuses you for at least a few seconds!

It's a funny little game, the AI pathing seems to work quite well, maybe after the Ludum dare you can expand off this.

Nifty little AI running. I could use this as a screensaver!

It's an interesting little system, it's nifty but I left it running for a while and they started off roading! Crazy drivers!

It is nice you give it a try at ludum dare. Add tapping to destroy each car and you can have a playable game.

It actually was pretty amusing for the first little while. I think this would make a great screen saver.
One improvement I would make is making it so that the cars actually avoid each other. It was cool as it was, but the thing I like the most about watching real life traffic patterns is seeing how thousands of cars flow in and out, but not a single one hits another (at least usually). I hope you keep working on this though, it's cool!

Thanks for all the comments! I actually spent most of Sunday trying to get cars to not hit each other (with success, actually), but wasn't able to get the cars coming on from the on-ramps to predict when there would be a gap for them to fit into. I am hoping to refactor the code and finish the "game" itself at some point soon. If I do I will post a link to the post-compo version.

Seems like russia. When people crash, they just keep going.

I love that no cars ever leave. I've just been watching it for a while now. Actually, when I tabbed back over, everyone had stopped a few trucks were in the grass :) Keep workin on it!

I love the idea of exploring interesting AI and sharing that with other developers. Best of luck to your future entries, I hope they continue to have neat AI.
