God-damning birds! by alfie275

[raw]
made by alfie275 for LD31 (JAM)
A kindof god-game, where you wage war on birds!

Magic:
P - Place follower (1000 mana)
T - Place trees on grass (10 mana)
F - Place forge (100 mana)

Orders:
Left click - Select (hold shift to retain current selection)
Right click - Goto location
C - Chop trees (wood is used to make ladders)
W - Worship (higher worshippers generate more mana!)
S - Smelt iron in forge to make sword (used to kill birds to win)

Use goto orders to mine, smelt iron to arm followers.
Kill all the birds to win. You lose if all followers die and you have under 1000 mana.

Update:
Linked gcc and stdc++ statically, which I presume was the issue people were having before.

Looks really interesting, but I can't get the followers to do anything, or see them :( Also, you might want to statically link the c/c++ runtime with the two flags -static-libgcc -static-libstdc++ . This will include the dll's needed in the executable

To let you know, it works great on Windows 7.

Very cool concept! It's a bit hard to tell what's going on at first, but once I figured it out, it wasn't too bad.

One point is that it feels a bit slow at first - getting subsequent followers is a bit of a chore.

Some minor points on a future update (which I would like to see!)
* Perhaps faster mana generation -- or just start with a few extra followers
* Additional UI to let you know what mode you're in, how many followers you have, how many are selected
* Cooler bird swarms.
* Port it! :)

I placed a Forge and Worshipper. But it's so tiny. How do I know something is happening? The red dot seems to stand still on the grass, how much I try to select (leftmouse) and order a goto (rightmouse) or chop tree (C).

The mechanics reminded me of Candy Box - the mana generation, planting trees etc, and perhaps the fact that it started a little slow.
I wish it was all a slightly bigger - it's hard to see what's happening on a 17″ 1080px laptop screen.
Overall, cool idea with lots of potential!

I can't play the game. The game launches a empty black screen with no sounds. Running on Windows 7 x64.
