Do Not Melt by Zarkith

[raw]
made by Zarkith for LD31 (JAM)
You are the last snowman,

Your home is collapsing,

Your world is collapsing,

Your world is melting,

YOU are melting...

Do NOT Melt.

Made by Team TURBOCLUB
Euske - Code
Fond3ll - Music & Sounds
Zarkith - Art

This is our second attempt at LD as a team. Sadly, due to real life obligations we didn't have enough time to finish coding all of the mechanics, so the gameplay is a bit bare bones, but it's still playable! Post-Compo version coming soon-ish.

It took me a while to figure out that you need to tap SPACE to start the game. But then it was fun to keep running around on the ice.

It would have been nice to be able to jump onto the higher levels, to be more safe.

Sometimes the snowman slided away from the ice and I lost, maybe add some visual clue to show if the player is near the edge?

Nice little game. The graphic is very cute and the music is nice. it just could collapse a bit faster. So that there is a bit more action.

I feel like this could've been a really fun game, but as you said real life got in the way. I don't fault you for that. It's a little hard to make out the snowman against the landscape. Controls felt nice. music is fun. Overall, just needs a little more work and polish but I think it could be fun.

It took me a bit to figure out which key to start, but otherwise it's a nice and simple game.

Rather nice audio :). The art was very nice as well, although it could've done with some improved visual cues in a few places (such as the distinction between pillars and edges being more obvious).

Plus, this was actually more fun to play than some of the games that HAVE been finished.

Could be really fun with more dynamic collapsing / melting and some more mechanics ... want to see post compo version :)

Fun game! I loved the graphics, especially the color scheme. The sound didn't seem to play for me in chrome however.

The sound issue should be resolved now.

I really enjoyed this! A top-down platformer with constantly changing terrain? Brilliant! I'm really looking forward to your post-jam version, because it's already really fun and charming.

One thing I noticed is that squares tend to melt very quickly, and it's pretty to get caught in a melting square that you had no idea was about to melt. Making the floor melt a little slower would let players be a little more strategic and avoid situations where the player feels cheated.

Great job!!

Cool game, but I think the difficulty could have been increased a bit with more landscape changes happening faster.

"You are the last snowflake..." quite similar to another entry I have seen. :P

The music is very well done. The Pixelart is great. After 20 seconds there didn't seem to be anything happening anymore. I waited until 160 seconds in. Eventually some single parts would break off, but nothing to put my snowman in danger. Also the contour of the snow/ice stared to look yellow because of the green background. ^^

+1 also for pausing the game when losing focus.

Really like this. Nice mood.

The shadow is a brilliant touch to ensure you know where you are while jumping.

Pretty interesting concept, the game mechanism remain unfinished (as you said) so the only goal is to survive,
but I could imagine more interesting things in this game like some items to catch and some ennemies coming.

I would like to see this game continued, I think it is a robust start of a good game.

I would like to see where this goes if it were to be expanded. I loved the art style and the music. I like the game design on paper, but it would take a lot of work to get right. All in all, great work!

I still get the error "The file you're looking for has been moved or deleted." on the dropbox page. It might be your own link, not a public link to the file.
And yeah, I'm curious about the source :)

Well since it's all javascript, you can see the source in your browser. I've fixed the dropbox link though, not sure why it broke in the first place.

Fun game mechanic. Nice graphics and audio. A pity you didn't have enough time to develop the game further.

Cool graphics and audio. However, the gameplay itself seems to be just about choosing a spot and waiting. Maybe you should speed up the ice melting, or think about a mechanic that would encourage the player to change position.
