Ember by geckojsc

[raw]
made by geckojsc for LD31 (COMPO)
Ember is a game about a girl on a floating island in space, using her computer to identify objects and artifacts.

Controls:

ARROW KEYS - movement
TAB - switch to the next item in your inventory
SPACE - use the current item

If you're struggling to use items, here are some good places to start:
- the garden to the left
- the empty table
- the fireplace

There are 9 items in total, they might not be easy to find. If you wait a while the computer might give you some hints. Otherwise, just sit and enjoy the ambience. :)

bugfixes:
2014/12/08 - fixed a bug with rainclouds not being correctly removed from the physics engine

I really love the graphics, the planet is very cute!
But I find hard to understand the mechanics.

Enjoyed the mood, but didn't get what you were supposed to do.

Couldn't find last items, but it's looking nice and it can be fun.

Very nice game, like the graphics like the sound, like the idea! :) I stuck around for a long time trying to find the last item, and to be honest I don't know how I found it, it just popped up "100%... you found the cryst... if you listen closely..." I'm still curious as to HOW I found it! :)

Haha yes I was expecting this. I'd wanted to have lots of items and interactions so that people wouldn't get stuck, and everybody could discover different things and have their own experience. I spent too long on the engine and atmosphere, so I ran out of time to add all those things. So for now the game is more of a guessing game where you try to figure out how I intended each item to be used.

There's even some secret music in the game! It's sad to think that not many people will find it, but I guess that's the beauty in secrets :)

OneMuppet: you put the thing on the thing and then combined it with the other thing? ;)

Thanks for playing though guys! I'm glad I succeeded with the sounds and graphics at least.

So cool, I think I found all the secrets! One question though - what is supposed to happen when you break the Illuminati triangle? The log says "AIRHORN.WAV", but I think it's the name of the secret song from the other item... Hmm.

It's just a reference to Vlambeer's Nuclear Throne and Gun Godz. I would have included an actual airhorn, but that would be breaking the rules since I didn't make the sound myself. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ASViACjq8a8

The first music phase was really great. Got stuck and restarted. Got 80% complete, but then just rain clouds came for a long time. I don't know how to proceed. Neat entry overall.

kinda hard to understand where to use what item and if you can use them more than once. They stay in your inventory but dont seem to do anything after you have already used them.

Good work overall!!

Nice game!

The graphics look awesome and the soundeffects are quite fitting. The music is great and sets the mood really well.

At the beginning I didn't really get what to do, but after getting warm with the game it was really enjoyable.
If the crystal... is the last item, I didn't find the second last item...

Nevertheless, awesome work!
