game of void by HER∆CEK

[raw]
made by HER∆CEK for LD31 (JAM)
This is the first "game" I've ever created.
There is nothing to play, just move with "A" and "D", and jump with "W" or "SPACE".

Basically I've managed to build primiteve 2D game engine, nothing more. But I did enjoy it! ;)
And learned alot.

Next time I'll use Tiled map editor with STI lib.

Tools: Lua and Love2D

Can totally relate to building you own engine :) The jumping mechanics already feels solid. Now start with the graphics ;-)

Congrats on developing a project. For future reference - you can use pre-existing code in the jam, as long as it's documented.

I recommend continuing to play with Love2D and writing some basic utilities for it (asset management, state machine, etc), and putting them up on a public repository. Then when the jam comes around you can use that code to jump start to developing the game rather than the underlying engine.

I say this as someone who did not do so, even though I knew I should. :-/

Keep it up :)

Having worked in XNA for a while before switching to Unity, I know how long-winded it can be to write your own game engine from scratch. I look forward to seeing how you can expand your skills in the future!

The collision detection is solid as heck. Nice work, and better luck next jam!

Unfortunately I couldn't get it to work (character never appeared on screen). Using OS/X 10.9.5

There might be nothing there to do in this game, BUT I made several games already and when I first tried to implement platformer physics, I failed miserably. So props to that. Just keep going and next time you'll have a full game!
